I chopped mine there too. I noticed no difference in the volume of my stick exaugsht. It's quite to begin with. I had a magnaflow cat-back the pro offroad series that turns down before the axle. That thing was beefy :). Btw I have a v6

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Could just punch a hole in the muffler.

Or, get a Midas glass-pack muffler (costs about $19 bucks) and it will wear out and sound loud in no time.

Or, do it right and install a Flowmaster Cat-back system

An exhaust system is designed/engineered. Smart people figure out the angles and pipe lengths to provide the best balance of power, economy, and aesthetic sound. Altering that brilliance is madness - what were you thinking?

I'll bet you could get a shop to weld back on the necessary pipe length/diameter for a reasonable cost?

I already have a aero 2525..just didn't like the rusty pipe coming out from the back, it was always in the way when offroading..I was thinking about cutting it before it bends over the axle, but I don't know

Well, all I can share is my own experiences here. I have the stock exhaust and have literally beat the fucking shit out of my truck off road. I replaced my front and rear bumpers to get better ground clearance and removed the tow package too. I have lifted the truck and added large tires. I have a winch and have pulled her screaming and crying out of three foot deep mud and off high-centered humps of rock, sand, dirt, whatever. In all those experiences I have never busted my exhaust. I've bent the crap out of the tip and had to use pliers to bend it back. I have lost some of the hangers and had to replace them.

Bottom line - I think there are a lot of other components that should be considered for change-uot before looking at the exhaust pipe.

My 2cents, restore the pipe or slap on the aero 2525. Get back that throaty sound.

Are you saying if you chop your exhaust that there will be some major performance and mpg losses? Getting the part of the exhaust he chopped off welded back on just sounds dumb imo. If you want your exhaust louder op you'll have to modify you cats or muffler in some way. Getting a new muffler welded in would probably be the easiest cheapest way.

I chopped mine yesterday and love it! its alot deeper sounding outside the truck, but in the cab theres no more drone, or noise. Which I think is a good thing...

I know it sounds good outside the truck, I dont want alot of sound inside the truck... :)

Nope, that's not what I am saying at all. If you do it right then you get what you wanted. Obviously the OP did not get what he wanted. The aesthetic sound of his exhaust changed and not to his liking.

Personally, I do not care what my exhaust sounds like and if I changed out mine or "chopped it" the goal would be to increase power. Some modify the exhaust for MPG, and perhaps get both MPG and power. Can you get all three? MPG, power, and aesthetic sound? Yes, of course you can. But probably only with a cat-back kit.

if you want louder get a flowmaster 10, i have it and am very satisfied, but when i chopped my flowmaster super 44 i noticed it was quieter too, maybe try getting it cut to where you have maybe 1 or 2" inches of pipe after the muffler and a straight turn down from there so the sound bounces off the pavement, might be louder, not sure tho just thinking..

Could just unbolt it at the stock manifold...ought to make it a little louder. Worked good on my CJ7 back in the day... every time the damn donut gasket would fall out. :D
