Question about the Spare tire

Has anyone removed their spare and left it off the truck? I figure if I get a flat, that I'll just call a truck.

If you've removed your spare, what did you do with the TPMS sensor?

why would you want to do that?

Although to answer your question, you can take the TPS senor out and put it in something like a wheel barrow wheel. Pump the wheel up to 30 PSI and throw it in a storage compartment. Other people use PVC pipe in the same way. This way you can run a different tire setup without having to deal with that stupid light.

 

Not all years have a TPMS sensor in the spare. They stopped putting them in the spare in '09 I think so it might not be an issue at all depending on what year you have.

I don't understand what you gain by removing the spare, it's stored out of the way. Seems like it'd be better to have and not need than need and not have but it's your call...

 

The spare tire also adds weight to the bed of the truck which is good for traction in the winter. The spare tire has a steel rim that is heavy as hell.

 

Thanks guys. It's not about the whole gas thing. I just figure I would never end up using it because the difference between the clearance and the jack isn't that great. Also, I figure I would just call a tow if something ever were to happen. Particularly if I got aftermarket wheels
