Double Din system Install questions

Newbie here, just picking up my 11 DC TRD S Grey 6spd Man, lurking on this forum has given me tons of info so thanks to all for the open sharing, seems like a solid community here

I've got a Kenwood DDX-7019 that I just pulled out my 07 F150, love it and want to GET it installed ie; not by me , I've got the SWI thing for the steering wheel controls, the ipod cable and the blue tooth box as well as garmin Nav unit of course.

Questions are:

- do I need a special wiring harness

- is there a stock looking face plate or dash kit I need or can it just slip into the cavity?

- is it EASY way to hook the rear view camera feed into the head unit instead of the mirror?

- anyone know where I can get a Garmin Map Update, think it is on SD card?

You do not have to have a wiring harness, but for ease of wiring and not having to splice into factory wires, I would recommend one.

You will need a new faceplate, I prefer Scosche but Metra makes one also.

I know you can wire your backup camera feed to your headunit, I'm just not sure how to do it. If you search, you should find a couple of threads.

 

If you are GETTING it installed by a professional, they should have the wire harness and dash kits for you. If you wanna tackle it on your own (not really difficult) you can get the wire harness and dash kit through Crutchfield.


GPS Map Updates probably come from their website.

Check out that link, lots of helpful info on there. I used the scosche wiring harness and dash kit, it made the install process pretty easy

I contacted Crutchfield when I did my Pioneer AVIC Z 110 and got a kit from them. Everything else was plug and play with my install.

It wouldn't hurt to find a reputable car stereo dealer in your area and bring it by and have them check it out. They didn't charge me much in labor for mine. And it was done RIGHT.

 

Good point, found a local one, $140 to install, very professional shop, and I don't have to worry about it
