First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Well in my opinion the problem here is that the OP (ChildrenofBodom)of the thread at "Customtacos" you are referring to Chris4x4 is trying to get reimbursement from Magnaflow for expenses he incurred that are not covered under the Magnaflow warranty.

Also noteworthy but perhaps not relevant is that ChildrenofBodom is a new member there with only 9 posts under his newbie belt - and my guess is that he only joined to make this complaint in hopes of embarrassing and discrediting Magnaflow.

Certainly I can empathize with his frustration. But he could have returned the defective muffler and gotten his money back and gone with another brand, but instead he kept exchanging it for a Magnaflow. And his installation costs kept rising. Is it fair to expect Magnaflow to cover those costs? Maybe? But certainly they are not legally obligated to under the terms of their lifetime product warranty.

A Parody Follows: You buy a new computer from Dell. You pay someone to set it up for, install applications, configure your email, security settings, etc. The PC stops working. You call Dell and they cheerfully replace it for you. You get the guy that set your PC up to come back out and set up the new one, you pay him again. Then again it breaks and you call Dell and they cheerfully exchange it for you. Then, again you have the guy that set it up back out to reinstall and configure everything. At this point you're on the 3rd PC from Dell and have paid this guys $200 x3 = $600. Making that Dell PC a lot more expensive then you had planned on. So you call up Dell and ask them to reimburse you for the money you paid the guy 3 times. They aren't so cheerful with you now and say, uh no! You drive over to Dell (because as fate would have it you live a few blocks away) and you speak with Michael Dell about your un-reimbured expenses. He points out that the Dell warranty only covers the PC and replacement or repair of a defective one and not other expenses that you may incur.

Only issue I had was the Off-Road Pro kit they sell doesn't fit the DC LB Tacoma. Got mine extended the necessary 13in and split the cost with the ebay seller b/c he assured me it would fit. Was cheaper than him refunding and paying for shipping back.

Called Magnaflow and they wanted me to send it back. I said i'll make it work and that they should change the description on the website, not sure if they ever did.

sounds like my stealership who i bought my truck from. carve in my paint 3 times to the body shop now there is more scratches then before it was in the bodyshop. now my truck has clear coat inside, and they refuse to fix it. also did i mention i had the truck for 5 days out of 4 weeks and they wont fix the interior because they only fix stuff 7 days after date of purchase. i only had it for 1 day after i bought it and the other 6 were with them. they used 2 tanks of fuel i paid for to take it to the body shop. and i am paying for all the problems they caused including getting the door buffed down because of there horrible polishing job. 200$ and counting for problems they caused. never got any accomodation either

    bump!

This would be my first post here at TacomaWorld forums, hopefully of many more to come.

My name is James. I am the OP of the thread posted on customtacos.com.

I came across this thread with a simple search of my typical forum username (ChildrenOfBodom) and decided to join. You guys have some great group buys going, seems like a cool place to discuss some sweet Toyota vehicles.

I would just like to link to you fellas another forum, the same thread subject actually.

This thread is updated, with info regarding my 3 failed mufflers (instead of the two mentioned in the customtacos thread). mountainwolfpup, I see your argument and present my counter argument:

I indeed posted that thread to discredit Magnaflow. I am a member of multiple forums, all of which I posted that thread. I joined CustomTacos prior to the Magnaflow incident for help with 3RZ performance questions. My home forum is T4R.ORG, where I have nearly 4,000 posts since April 2008.

3 mufflers, all failed within 13 months of the first. I find Magnaflow products to be inferior. My main problem with the Magnaflow folks is not the installation costs, but the quality of their customer care.

For example: I made my Magnaflow headquarter visit after the 2nd muffler had already failed. Derek Acosta of Magnaflow instructed me to replace the current faulty muffler with another of the same type for a full refund of installation and purchase cost for that particular 3rd muffler. Upon returning to Magnaflow's headquarters, I provided the requested receipts and installation invoice, but they did not cover the expenses and left me with the 3rd muffler. My frustration is that they conned me into installing a 3rd muffler under false pretense.

The 3rd muffler did break, 1.5 months after it was installed, as shown in the two videos posted in the T4R.ORG thread.

The 3rd failure was the last. I wanted to like Magnaflow, as most of the other brands did not sound good with the 3RZ motor. Instead of dealing with more installation costs, I cut the muffler off with my sawzall and sent it back to Amazon.com for a partial refund. I used the money to purchase a Jardine muffler and a few exhaust clamps. The Jardine has been mounted for 7 months so far. No rattles, no problems. Has even held up through all of the 4WD abuse that the other Magnaflows never saw (I converted my truck from 2WD to 4WD between mufflers).

I stand by the Jardine so far.
