Which steel wheels for my 1st gen???

So I'm confused (ya, big surprise!). I have an 04 Tacoma 4wd and like the 98 series pro comp steel wheels (I have 265/75/16 tires and want to use them). However, I'm told that depending upon which brake caliper I have, they may rub. I spoke to ProComp, and they're suggesting test fitting some. I just don't want to go to that hassle. They did say another version would fit, but they're glossy, and I want flat black. Questions:

1. How can I tell which caliper I have?
2. I'd like my wheels to stick out a bit further than the stock ones do. Which size wheel would I get?

i got those same wheels in 15's and they told me the same thing, so they sent me some 1/4in spacers just incase i needed them. turns out they fit just fine and i returned the spacers and got a full refund.

i think the wheels that have fitment issus are the one with the D-holes in the web, not the circles.

the steel wheels that don't clear any of the first gen caliper brake vein is the soft 8 style wheel... regardless of 15s or 16s, its the dimple dies of the holes that rub... you will need a 1/4" spacer to clear the face of the calipers...

pro comp did make a more recent style of soft 8s where the dimple die does not cut in as deep, but i have no idea what the part number is...

 

I have eagle alloys 58's 16' and rubbed on the caliper, fixed now . But the pro comp steel wheels do look great.

 

that's what i was told, that there's dimples on the back of the wheel because they punch the hole - they showed me the one's that fit, as they drill those out. the problem is, i want the flat black color, and they only make the drilled ones in glossy...

 

yah, the flat blacks look more aggressive, but if you let the glossy get dirty, they will look just as good... haha

OR, get the Soft 8s and run a spacer up front...
