Drivers rear window stopped working.

Got a call from my wife saying the window won't go up anymore and is stuck about an inch from the top. I checked the master and rear switches and have voltages there when the switch is activated.

This leads me to believe I have a bad motor and holy crap they're expensive. Has anyone else replaced theirs? Is it part of the window regulator or separate?

I can't really speak for the tacoma but i have done this in another car. You will have to take your door panel off and i'm almost positive you will have to remove the glass. Its usually just 2 bolts and really isn't that hard anyway. The glass is connected to the regulator that's what makes it go up and down. On top of that it would just be a pain to work around.
The motor is connected to the regulator and they should separate. You prabably want to just drop the whole unit out though because it sucks trying to work inside of a door. LOL. I can tell you this job is not fun. I took me the better part of a day and I am pretty proficient with my hands.

 

You shouldn't have to take the glass out but you need to make sure it doesn't fall and chop your hand off.

x2. ive done it on other vehicles, but not on my taco. its a bitch, but do-able. you might need an extra set of hands with you, and some shims to keep the window from sliding down on you. i recall on my jeep GC they only sold the whole unit and that was right around 200 bucks. good luck.
