I was just wondering if anyone with a 2nd gen base model has added the overhead console?? Obviously the headliner would need to be cut to match the SR5/TRD trims but is it prewired??

It's funny you just posted this. I just bought an overhead console for my base regular cab. I'm pretty sure the wires are there, as you can get an SR5 regular cab with the console.

It should arrive next week, and I'll post some pictures of the install!

Still, has anyone else done this?

Keep me posted on the progress man, I'm going to go look under my hood tomorrow for the temp sensor wire.

I like the overhead in my base model prerunner better than the temp compass one. It has spot for garage door opener instead of the temp compass readout and the spot for glasses behind the map lights. Isn't the headliner shaped different in ones without consoles than the ones with consoles? Seemed to recall that when I was looking for reg cab prerunner or 4x4 with buckets and center shifter console but not sure now. Thought one was kinda flat and the console ones had a hump that the console mounted to where it would require a whole different headliner piece. Either overhead would be better than none tho. X3 on the pics.

UPDATE; I looked under the hood today for the overhead console temp sensor and right below the horn, the wiring was already there along with the sensor. Now i just have to check for the overhead wiring and order up an overhead console! Im surprised the base model was already prewired !

Well, I got the console today, (way sooner than expected) and went to get a feeler for what I figured would be tomorrow's project. I didn't pull the headliner off, just took off the sun visors and felt around up there.

I ran into a few snags though:

1.) The wiring harness in the ceiling looks like it's for the console with the temp/compass. I got the normal one without those. There isn't a second wire up there for just electricity to the lights.

2.)There doesn't appear to be any mounting bracketing on the roof of the truck for the console.

I'm not quite sure what I'm going to be doing with this. I'll probably pull off the whole headliner tomorrow to get a better view of what's going on.

I'll keep those of you interested posted on my progress. In the meantime, does anyone know of any threads of how to take down the headliner? Make my life a little easier tomorrow!

If anyone out there with a Non-TRD Access or Double cab has a picture of the wire going into their console, could you post that so I can get a better idea of what I need to do there.

    Thanks everyone!

While you have got the headliner off/out ..... did you think about installing some sound dampening .... just a thought.

Eduardo, you're totally right. Ugh so I'm gonna have to figure out how to mount AND wire this thing. I have an auxilliary fuse panel set up, so I guess that won't be too difficult, just running some wires and figuring out how to connect them to the console.

I don't think this is going to be as easy as I hoped it would be.

And Jimmy, sound deadening sounds like a REALLY good for the tin-can of a roof we have.

In the Upper console equipped tacoma's , there is a square cutout in the headliner .If you cut out a square exactly where the console belongs, the metal mounting plate should be there already attatched to the roof. Keep us posted on the progress, im looking to do the the mod!

Please keep us posted on this. If it turns out to be fairly straightforward I'd love to add this to my truck.

If he doesn't post a write-up, I certainly will, but it may be awhile before I can find a used 2011 Temp/compass console
