I took my truck to get inspected and it failed for having a rot hole in the frame. It is on the inside by the gas tank.

The weird thing is it just got checked by a dealership before I bought it and re undercoated.......

But there is definitely a hole so I'm gonna take out my tool box and stuff I like and take it down to the dealership.

I bought the truck for 7.5k out the door so I guess this means my new truck budget just went up?:D:D

I just bought the truck 14 days ago, it needed a new steering rack, tie rod ends, seals for the transfer case, etc.

It was my first taco so when I bought it I wasn't intimately familiar with the truck, but now I am so I will be able to make a better purchase.

But now I have to do the whole truck shopping thing all over again, that's kind of a hassle......

Is there some sort of time restriction of ownership before Toyota buys back your truck? I thought I read something about that so people dont go out and purposely buy trucks for buyback.

I haven't read anything like that. I bought the truck which had JUST been inspected the day before by toyota to keep. But today my mechanic found a rot hole in the frame by the shackle mount on the gas tank side.

A tacoma buddy of mine at work just bad toyota buy his back. he couldn't get $2500 for it but took it to a dealership and they ended up giving him $8800 for buy-back. You get %150 of the KBB "excellent" condition... BUT you have to own it for a year.

Do you have a link for the having to own it for a year thing? I looked at the procedure for the inspection, the memo they sent out to owners, and the memo sent to the dealers, all of which were put out by Toyota and none mentioned anything pertaining to length of ownership.

The dealership I got it from actually had it tested before I got it and they did not own the vehicle for a year.

if it got inspected and it passed them, then got failed 2 weeks after by a long standing problem...they should be responsible. I'd go back and bitch out hardcore for not stating it on toyota's inspection form.

Yeah, I'm a little upset. I mean the possibility of the buyback is somewhat of a relief, but the fact is I saved up 8k cash and looked for months for this truck. Toyota dealership in North Jersey passes it then I take it to my local inspection station here in PA and the guy pokes a hole in the frame with a screwdriver. They coated over terrible flaking rust. As in the fresh black undercoat when I bought it two weeks ago is already coming off in spots.

Now I'm going to be worried all weekend about this as I can't take it in until monday.:(

yea man i feel ya, you shouldnt have to worry at all. They should make things right becuase they (weather they knew or not) passed that after they inspected it.

I have always heard you have had to own it for at least 1 year to be eligible for buy back.... That protects Toyota from having people purchase and turn around and profit...

I read the official toyota memos sent to dealers, inspection procedures, etc and it did not mention that anywhere. I also addressed this three or four posts up. Until someone can provide any sort of documentation regarding this I am going to consider it heresy.

One of the things that has been pounded into my head over and over again is to believe half of what you see, and none of what you "hear". Words get tangled and rumors start and thousands of people spread lies and don't know it, about everything. If someone would show me something in writing from a legitimate source I would be very appreciative.
