Oil Change Mishap

    Ok, I'm an idiot.

    I've got a 2011 Toyota Tacoma, changed the oil for the first time today at 5k miles.

    I foolishly unscrewed something other than the oil drain plug and a pinkish/oily like liquid came out. I was using a 14mm socket if that helps. I'm thinking it was the rear differential fluid is that right?

    It was about a foot from where the oil drain plug is (yes, I did find it), towards the back of the truck.

    The rear differential is much farther back. You just drained the transmission.

    Do NOT drive it. Get a ride to the nearest dealership and get the replacement fluid.

    The Op said the 14mm plug he removed was a foot inback of the engine dran plug. I've got the automatic and the transmission is alot farther back than a foot. Isn't the manual transmission plug farther back than a foot also?

    I did that too the first time I changed the oil on my truck. :D
    It was only for a split second though as I saw the oil was pink and put the bolt back in with the quickness. No harm done.

    Honestly, not to be a dick, but if you can't tell the difference between a transmission and an oil pan, you shouldn't be working on your truck.

    Lol I had a different problem with my oil change...being a manual and all. I unscrewed the filter thinking I had the damn hole covered but oil streamed down onto me AC pump and I had the worst squeal for over 2 months...lol
