    I read about this mod shortly after joining TW. I went to the hardware store and threw on the hose clamp for piece of mind. Recently, I had to take my tailgate off, I was actually surprised at how long it took to remove the clamp. I do not worry about anyone taking the time to remove it. Thanks Chris for such a great suggestion!

    you could be right, but in my experiance, those theives are more "big time" while the ones who steal tailgates, and cats, are more petty thieves.

    ? lol Here I was thinking we were simply having a discussion. Nobody said anything about "high tech thieves," I was simply respectively disagreeing with the security of the hose clamp and the notion that the thief wouldnt come prepared with some tools and the nerve to spend an extra few moments to dissassemble the clamp.Just a different take, thats all. Sometimes its nice to see different points of views on any topic instead of all the pole smoking that goes on in a forum setting. Got nothing but respect for the OP and his oil change info in another thread was useful to me. Sorry youre so easily offended bro:eek:

    Well, looking at it now it doesn't sound so bad, but last night after a few drinks I took the "your local tweeker/dirtbag population prob has everything to do with it " comment as a bit of a slam at where you live, like Dank lives in such a higher class area his thieves are all classy - but Yeah I was wrong and it makes no sense now.... My apologies!

    LOL!! Its all good. But, He does have a point. Criminals are not evenly distributed. Some areas may have a higher petty crime rate than others. And the criminals in my area seem to lean more twards the lazy side of the crime rankings. However.....I did have my tool box broken into one time, only to have a pack of smokes, 2 bags of Sunflower seeds, a bolt, and some keys stolen. They ignored the tools, recovery gear, etc.....

    1. Clamp First

    2. Tailgate Bully lock on top of it (this does not work at all by itself)

    3. Houle Bicycle Rack on the back hinge that requires a 11/16 wrench to remove.

    If they steal the rack it only costs $120 but they will waste about 1 minute to remove it, if they have a long wrench because I use a 3 foot pipe to tighten it down:D.

    I just removed the Pop n Lock that I had installed when I bought the truck last year. From the get go it was harder to bring down the tailgate but got progressively worse. So bad that over the weekend i could not open it at all. I had to removed the tailgate cover and put a screwdriver in there to get it to engage. i dont think i am the only person ever to have had this prolem either. I for now am going to do this "cheap" mod and hope it prevents theft by making a criminal have to actually spend 2 minutes to steal it rather than 10 seconds.

    I used to work armed security for apartment complexes while going to school - i used to work in Chris's hood (around Sky harbor) some of the apartments there are ghetto trash and tweeker haven. (Chris, I'm sure your apartment is fine...I'm talking about the surrounding area) - I had caught a guy riding off one of the section 8 properties on a bicycle (tweeker's choice) with the wing spans of the tail gate of a truck.....if he rode fast enough, he could've flown.:p

    guy also had a backpack full of tools like pliers, screw drivers and he also had copper tubing and wires that he took from somewhere.

    These guys will take anything and everything, albeit they spook very easily and the more trouble it is to "delay" a thief, is more trouble to them....in an apartment/condo setting like that, they just move on to the next truck:rolleyes:
