I understand your concern. It was scary making that first cut. For my CarriageWorks grill I only cut out the center cross bars. The instructions also talked about cutting a section out of the sides, using a supplied template, but I didn't do that. I saw no reason for it. After cutting out the cross bars the grill fit perfectly. Why cut more than absolutely needed? I just hacksawed the bars out, then used a dremel to smooth it out real good. Just take your time. Good luck...

Hey...I just noticed you have a first gen truck. Mine is 2nd gen. Not sure if they are the same procedure.

OK. Just take your time and trial fit it as you go. Be sure to post some pics when you get it completed!

oh man. dude i know what you talkin about. the instructions that come with those are horrible. luckily i was at work when i installed mine so i had the tools i needed. mainly being a recip saw that i just snagged off the engine, and plenty of work space in the apparatus bay!

anywho. its kind of hard explaining it to you without being there. just cut a little bit off at a time. thats about all i can say. damn i really want to help you out but i dont think there is any other way unless i could show you ya know?

well after youre done cutting the stock apart you do have to bolt it on. same with the lower grill if you got that as well. anyways the one you have will look better when finished anyways because itll be recessed. the ones that just go right over the stock dont look as clean because you can still see the stock one right behind it.

i think you should post a pic of it completed. when i installed mine at first i liked the look of it. then one day i looked at my truck and thought to myself since when did i like the look of all this chrome. so i took the the rattle can and went to town and spray painted the billet grilles black and left the stock surrounding "shell" if thats what youre referring too chrome.

depending on the color of your truck you may just want to spray paint the grille itself black, not the surrounding part.

post a pic and youll get alot more input.
