Humbug Creek near Lake Pleasant

I had seen some dams in Google Maps north of Lake Pleasant and have wanted to check them out for a while. I was bored this morning so I figured what the hell.... They are in Humbug Creek which flows right into the lake near Table Mesa Road/Cow Creek Road. The roads down to the area were pretty mellow. There is some stuff down in the wash that is well beyond my trucks abilities.

There is also another ridge south of the one I first went down that crosses Humbug Creek and continues up further. I took that thinking I could then go down Table Mesa Road, get on Cow Creek and then head out. Well Table Mesa in that are deteriorated into a mesquite thicket and then went right into the lake. I met a group there in 2 rhinos and a Jeep on 40's. The Jeep went about 40' in and water started coming into his cab. So we all had to backtrack back through the mesquite thicket. I thought my paint was hosed.

Most of the pinstripes came out with a wash and some spray on wax. A good buffing and it will all be ok. Whew!

Looks pretty awesome. I may have to go check that out. Were there any challenging areas that weren't too crazy, but harder then just a regular dirt road?

 

What the trail like as far as using your 4wd? Could a pre runner make it? Trails looks freaking fun!

 

That fits it to a T. Some areas and lines that made it fun. There were offshoots that looked to be more challenging that I didnt go on since I was solo.

Some interesting stuff farther up the road that crossed Humbug Creek. That road is on the east side of the creek. It continued north and crossed Table Mesa Road, then curved back down into Humbug Creek further upstream. There were several alternate lines. I ended up just hiking around at the top.

I was going pretty slow. There was a lot of easy-ish dirt road that could be done a lot faster than I did but also couldnt see around corners all that well (a head-on encounter with another vehicle wouldnt be good). There were a couple climbs out of washes where I used 4wd and crawled. I think a pre-runner with a locker could do it all, but may spin the tires some and have a bumpier ride due to having to keep more speed up. Do the TRD OR pre-runners have ATRAC?

 

I dont believe so, just a 4 wd feature. I love river bed driving, id love to get a small group and check this trail out sometime!

I saw the words "Humbug" and "lake" and figured someone was posting about what all happens on the water.....

I used to go play in the dirt when I worked out there, Id be down to check it out!
