I've had this happen before too.. Always have caught it before the battery died though. Last time I was sitting in it listening to music before work (with the truck on but not running) headlights were on, then when I opened the door they should've gone off but didn't, not even after hitting the lock button on the key fob. No idea what causes this, I just try to make sure they are off when I leave the truck

Don't know if this is your problem, but I had a problem where all of a sudden they were on all the time... came to find out that after I got out of the truck (with the truck still running) my wife would get out of the passenger side and grab the keys as she was getting out. I have my lights set to auto so they are always on when driving, apparently since the computer didn't think I got out, the lights would stay on.

edit, not all the time, but randomly they would be on when we returned to the truck.

Same thing happens to me if I air up my bike tires from the passenger side. I usually reach across, put the key in to power the compressor. I think, like above, the computer doesn't register the driver door opening so it doesn't turn them off. Luckily I caught it as I was riding away lol!

What do you mean you have your lights set to auto? How is that done?

I have the light switch turned all the way on. don't know if it says auto on the lever, but when I start my truck the come on, when I turn off my truck they go off (except in instances like mentioned above).

Upon further inspection, there are 3 options:

    -headlight looking thing (ON position)
    -dot
    -OFF

So apparently I just leave them in the ON position, which is auto (auto on/auto off).

Quick question to not get off topic, but what is the middle option on the stalk? I tried all 3 out and the middle did nothing?

It makes it sooo much easier to park if you use the parking lights...

DUde its not for parking its for making your truck visible to other drivers at night with out using headlights which drain battery really quickly. When you stop on the side of the road and you need to leave your truck, you put parking lights ON.

They are not for Parking they are used when you are Parked :D
Hazard lights are for hazard. Low beams for seeing, High beams for blinding dinner.
Parking lights are for when you parked to make vehicle visible. Next time you stop at truck stop or rest area look at the lights on the trucks. They will have their parking lights ON (at least most of the trucks):) Parking lights are also called marker lights. As "to mark the outline of vehicle"

Yeah I went out, unlocked my door (manually) and the light stalk was switched to off, like I said its been sittin for 3 days and I look at it everytime I walk outside, they wernt left on, on that note I've always noticed the bat was weak ever since I got it, you can only leave the radio on for about 10min before it drains the battery, took it in town today and had it tested, my battery was junk idk I've got it aimed twords the house, if they come on or are on durring the day ill know it

Have you modified your foglights to come on anytime?

There was a post on here somewhere about someone doing that mod and then finding there lights coming on by themselves. Something to do with an emissions component that will come on and do it's thing hours after the truck is shut down. When they did the mod, they tied the fog lights power into the emissions.

With a weak battery, you might want to check that possibility if you have that mod done.

yeah i thought i read something about that one time, i dont have any fogs (see sig) but i do have a set of off road lights and they were what was on, they're wired thru a relay and the trigger wire is the hi beam wire, dont know how that could be tied into the emissions stuff, so far they've stayed off AFAIK, i dont know if it was something to do with the battery being shot or what

edit so the only way the off road lights can be turned on is if the hi beams are on, there's no other way for them to be activated so switch ect... that's kinda why i was like uh wtf is goin on cause it's been sitting for 3 days

Same thing happened to me the first month i had my 09. got a call one morning from a neighbor and he said your headlights just came on in your truck. I looked out the window, sure enough they were on, walked outside, doors locked, no one could have done it, switch was set to off. no idea what happened they turned off when i unlocked it with the remote. the dealer had no idea either. weird

My 2006 did this a couple of years ago. Lights coming on for no reason while parked with the switch off. It got worse, and the dealer traced it to a short in the fuze block ( a defect) requiring fuze block replacement for $600.

I hope you have a different issue.
