i am trying to price a truck from afghanistan via USAA and i want a 4 door 4x4 v6 AT double cab with the JBL audio TRD off road package and every time i get a link to a dealership, nothing ON the actual truck itself says OFF ROAD TRD - but they say SPORT TRD... is this the same thing or am i confused?

i thought the SPORT TRD was for more cruising and the OFF ROAD TRD was for more off roading. i wanted the off road trd bc it has the skip plate, running boards, etc... and the JBL audio is nice bc i can hook up my iPod as well as have a great sound system.

Can someone explain this to me...

if you actually offroad, running board are useless regardless of that you have. also, the stock skid plates are crap, including the TRD aluminum one. the main difference is the rear locker on the offroad and ATRAC. the sport has the auto lsd w/ TRAC and the colormatched items w/ the scooped hood. either can offroad fine w/ the right mods.

You can only get the DCLB in the sport

You can only get the locker in the OR

Other than that, it all looked like bells & whistles to me. I went with the sport DCLB and an aftermarket locker.

If you wanna add a locker to a DCLB , get an SR5 4x4

so the majority of stock ad-ons they try to get you to buy aren't worth tagging on when you make the buy initially? and i can do better by using after-market ad-ons?

Not sure if you are buying new or not but be careful about going by the stickers on the truck. They have been known to lie:

not if you plan on offroading it. you'd buy beefy skids and sliders anyways.

yes i am buying new. i guess i need to take someone with me who can look under the hood or bed and make sure. bc on USAA's site, they list out every thing that the SPORT TRD and the OFF ROAD TRD packages supposedly consist of.

I wouldnt go back to that rank for all the money in the world. you might be taken more seriously bc you are prior service.

na, its a great move. its a better career move in the long run. You can retire as an officer and get a far better pension. good luck and if i can do anything for you, let me know. I pin Captain when we redeploy, soon thereafter.
