Maybe they could do a better job of enforcing the law if they actually knew it...

The disrespect towards the beginning didn't help the situation at all.

My point exactly - I don't care if the cop is corrupt, an idiot, or just plain stupid. An officer tells me to drop to the ground I friggin drop - otherwise I am opening myself up to all sorts of stupid games and pissing off the cop. Maybe some people can't see that... those people need to derp up. :D

I think that deals with what his principles are. He felt that he didn't have a reason to entirely cooperate with the officer because he wasn't doing anything wrong, according to him. He should have cooperated completely and things might have not gone the way they did but at the same time it is also wrong to blow the situation out of proportion in the manner that the officers did. He was calm about the situation and still the cops went nuts!

I can't speak for every state but as a rule of thumb if given an unlawful order you have the right to refuse. I would have dropped out of fear they would have shot me and used that in the depositions that should be forthcoming if he pursues a civil action against the city and state.

If he was ordered to strip down to insure he didn't have a bomb on him would you agree with that order? (No sarcasm intended just asking!!) The police can make reasonable inquiry and from that make a determination if they can go further. I.E. had a robbery just occurred? Was there a shooting in the area that matched his description? Lots of things we weren't told so I'm trying to stay in the middle of the road in all this....

Those cops would shit themselves here in AZ. FWIW, I think the cops were in the wrong. it could have been handled in a better, more affective way.

And just how many individual laws are there for him to know exactly? 1k, 10k, or maybe 100k different laws that he has to be able to enforce. Yeah, sounds real easy.

In AZ open carry is a more commonly known law and more commonly exercised right - perhaps in that environment the cops would of been more supportative of the man's rights.

thats a pretty piss poor excuse for holding a law abiding citizen at gunpoint and threatening his life. if the sergeant can't remember gun laws, maybe he's not suited for law enforcement.

I have to agree with this. Although there are shit tons of laws, and cops cant be expected to remember every single one, the ones that would cause an officer to approach a subject while displaying leathal force SHOULD be clearly remembered. having an LEO (or anyone for that matter) point a weapon at you is NO joke.

It really is amazing how many Tacoma owners can walk on water... must be the most perfectly driven vehicle ever; north or south of the frozen border. Sheesh people - the cops are people too. They have good days and bad days. The difference between them and us is their bad days get them dragged through the mud and hung from the rafters. How many of you would withstand the scrunity this cop has had to endure????

I dont think anyone is saying Taocma owners are capable of walking on water, but rather, discussing the officers actions. Yes....Cops can have the worst days on earth. Yes....they are under apriciated. However, there are other ways the officer could have handled the situation.
