How does ALSD work in the rain (not technically how does it work, but how good/bad does it work)? I haven't had the chance to use on the wet pavement.

I wonder if ALSD would work better than TRAC in the rain, since as you stated, TRAC is not aggressive enough.

(I wish I drove my truck to work today to find out!)

I have tested it all in the rain...

ALSD (AUTO LSD) IS 'TRAC' in 2WD, but without engine output regulation (just with brakes... same as TRAC in 4WD-HI).

You get more of a Posi-Traction feel with AUTO LSD, over the standard TRAC in 2WD. However, the biggest advantage on wet roads going around turns is VSC. AUTO LSD shuts off VSC until you go to 30 mph or more, but it is lurking and will come on to stop you from spinning out or rolling over.

On rainy days, just leave the buttons alone... the standard setting of TRAC and VSC works fine. My 2010 in 2WD handles like my 2005 did in 4WD on wet roads... better control, no spinouts turning corners with your foot in it. Very amazing and a big help when our pickup bed are empty driving on wet roads.

AUTO LSD is best used by 2WD only Tacomas when they need more power to turn the rear tire(s)... when you want it to spin a bit to grab in snow... TRAC regulates the engine in 2WD to prevent tire spin from a heavy foot, but AUTO LSD doesn't.

4WD Tacomas have the advantage to just engage H4 if the back tires spin when you try to move from a stop. Shift-on-the-fly, after-all.

Dont know my 4wd always works and my limited slip does all the work with out interaction and brake wear.
Plus its funny how probably $3000 in electronics tries to mimic $270 lock right or $350 dollar Hino Limited slip. :D

Sounds like Epic fail to me. Or greatest scam for Toyota ( just imagine how much they going to make in troubleshooting fees and sensor replacement over truck lifetime. );)

4WD is now electronic... so half electronics failed the other half try to save the face.
In meantime when 4wd was enagged wit h lever you would not even have that problem at all. :D

1Gen had manual hub option so you would never had that problem there.

Plus if failure was more up stream you would not have ALSD either :D
hence why Mechanical independent systems are way much better. Plus using breakes as traction system, how long one can spin until breakes smoke

Get real, you spark up whenever you have the opportunity to make the same comparitive statements of the Sport to the OR. And you always imply that if you buy a Taco you WILL be wheeling the sand dunes on a regular basis. Reality is that not too many people that own a Taco spend their weekends driving across the Baja and hence do not need ATRAC. 4x4 will get most of us where we are going. And YES, the stock Sport looks better than the SR5 or OR period.

All vehicles break on the trail, Toyota's included. Now I can't say I've seen more Tacoma's broken on the trail than jeeps. I've seen my fair share of both.

Each vehicle has it's weakness and strength and for me the Tacoma wins hands down over a Jeep, Out of the box the new JK 4 doors are probably the most capable 4x4 you can get from the show room floor. But the minute some one starts to modify a vehicle, all bets are off. There hasn't been a trail I've been on that I couldn't go where a Jeep went in front of me BUT, there has been times when a Jeep hasn't been able to follow me.
Case in point. This was a run on Cleghorn that I took a bunch of Tacomas, Some of them stock on a snow run. We ran into a school of Jeeps that had turned around because the snow was too deep. We got all of the Tacoma's through there on they're own power and the only ones I had to pull through the deep stuff was an FJ Cruiser and an early pickup that took the wrong line

But then again I do have dual crawlers, 40" tires, a 237: 1 crawl ratio, locked front and rear, my truck is wider than it is tall and has a longer wheel base which makes it more stable than 99.9% of the Jeeps out there plus I don't have to eat dust all day long.

But in the end it comes down to owners preference on the vehicle they want to wheel.
