Hi all, i bought a 99 taco 4x4 v6 sr5 a few years ago. it had the frame recall .. long story short, I ended up getting the deal and buying an 09 tacoma. I have now had my new truck for almost 3 years, has 55k on it already. but i dont like all the electronics and traction control and safety features , i miss my old taco very much because i could beat on it and have a good time. i only owe 7 grand on my 09 before its paid off. but im thinking about selling it and buying a 2004 because they seem more bulletproof and they dont have all the traction control and safety alarms and sh**. i found an 04 with trd , 54,000 miles selling for $15,000. DO I keep my 09 tacoma? or do i trade or sell this truck and buy an 04? any advice / thoughts helpful. thankyou everyone :p

Amazing how many people ride trains because if man was meant to fly, he would have wings???

The traction controls work... glad that after they have been on other Toyota models for so long, they finally gave them to the Tacoma! If you like spinning tires that don't help you move, (and wreck the roadbed) then hold down the VSC button and turn them OFF! You do have a choice of TRAC or NO TRAC.

Good luck, but the '09, '10, '11 is a superior off road driving machine compared to my good '05 or my great '01 Tacomas (all Off Road 4WDs).

You missed the simple 2nd gens by one year! :D

08 has none of what you describe haha. Like a newer bigger 04!

08 also rated most reliable truck made by anyone by Consumer reports and JD Power. No "VSC" "TRAC" "ATRAC" etc. Drive train, locker, etc, done.

I can beat on this guy no problem :D

"Magic Brakes"?? Interesting term... However, most think of 'brakes' for stopping... The traction controls (that brake a non-traction tire so the good tire gets the power) keep you GOING!

    hahaha that works...

I think you should get the truck that you enjoy driving the most... sell the 09, buy the 04, and put the extra money into parts and mods for the 04. =)

Old gens were fantastic vehicles. If you could find an 04 with Low miles it would be a great catch. If you want the roomier more modern new generation, pre 09 like I said has none of that fancy stuff.

Beef it up a bit like the pic I posted above and you can beat it up just fine!

Ehh... that's awfully low trade in value. I'd haggle, haggle, haggle until they offer quite a bit more on the 09. And if in the end they won't budge, then time to move on to the next good find (which will eventually happen! :D)

On a side note, I had no idea the 05-08 didn't have the fancy electronics that the 09-present have. I guess that's a good thing?!?!?

no nannies here. i could also live without the occasionally hyper-active ABS. i would however like to have the ATRAC option...didn't research enough before purchase.

Electronics are good thing on 3 year old car. Then when they start going and you need to pay for troubleshooting and replacement that's where all fun goes through the door.
Give you example Audi A8 original price $120K sold for $few K due to electronic system dead. Car had low miles too.
I am looking for 4runner transfer case and I found few of them but none have actuators take a guess why.
Give it few years and this forum will be filled with "my traction system not working and dealer wants $7000 to repair, what should I do" :D
