Looking at buying an AR-15. Help needed.

LWRC is, imo, the best made AR on the planet. I have the M6A2 and love it.

Well, I found one locally. It is a Spike's Tactical lower w/ a Stag upper and Olympic Arms barrel w/ a 1/9 twist rate. It has Yankee Hill Machine (YHM) Forearm and flash suppressor. I just ordered YHM front and rear BUIS for it as well. Can't wait to shoot it.

I don't know what has been posted in this thread but I'll go ahead and toss in my experiences:

the carbine gas system has a gas tube that's 7" long. The Midlength has a gas tube that's 9" long. A rifle length gas system has a gas tube that's 12" long. So the midlength is in the middle of both...hence MIDlength. When the rifle is shot gas is generated and that's what cycles the gun. However the shorter the gas tube is the higher pressure the gun will face. What the midlength offers over the carbine is an extra 2" for the gas pressure spike to go down. People say that it will cut down on felt recoil, enhance the longevity of parts, and keep the rifle cooler. I have both and tend to agree. However I doubt many people shoot their rifles hard enough to tell the difference.

A lower you buy online will have to go to your local FFL for transfer, unless they're in the state you're in and you're up for a drive. Good lowers have the names LMT, RRA, Colt, Bushmaster, DPMS, Spikes Tactical, Anvil Arms, Sabre, etc on them. If you want to just slap the upper and lower recieiver together get a COMPLETE LOWER, not a STRIPPED lower.

For the upper receiver I would stay with quality brands like Colt, RRA, Bushmaster, LMT, BCM.

Magpul makes good stuff.

I run an EOTech and am plenty happy with it. Mine did die just from sitting in the closet but I sent it back and it's been just fine in 5000 rounds. Aimpoint is good and so is the Trijicon ACOG if you're in the mood to be spendy and need a magnified optic.

I was going to build one too. until i saw a DPMS Low pro classic with a 16" bull barrel. Got it for $700 brand new!

Topped it with an Eotech and it is great.

 

Wow, when and where did you get that? recently?

 

i really wanted the ar-15 also, but decided i would like rims on my tacoma better so i guess my ar-15 is gonna have to wait , it was eather spend 1300 on a gun and shoot it every once in awhile and look at it in your room or drive a nice truck and sport them rims everyday

Try gas operated, like the venerable AK, instead of direct impingement.

The US Army has already conducted a test of the M4 and it came in last place, though it has served the US for about 40 years and gotten better.

Gas systems are cleaner. I'm not saying get an LWRC like mine, but it's considered one of the best.

There are other replacement gas systems out there for any upper including your link. Or just get a complete gas system.
