I purchased an 08 Tacoma a little while ago. The truck came with clear plastic on certain high traffic areas around the truck. I really hadn't noticed it before, but curious if anyone else has that? Is this protection that is supposed to be there or something that came with the truck during shipment?

I guess I should ask my sales guy too...

i have the same stuff on my 07 prerunner. it's very thick, almost like a clear decal and it's not perfectly smooth either, it feels like it has bumps in it but to answer your question, yes it is to protect the paint in areas that are more prone to be struck with rocks and other debris. i just deflapped my truck today so i'll be relying on the plastic covering a little more now haha

    thanks for the confirmation...

i started reading the threads about debadging, etc and thought holy crap, maybe that plastic that is on the taco shouldnt be there...

anyway, yea, its thick. seems to make sense, but they dont say anything about it in the literature that caught my eye...

i guess it's an added benefit

it's another one of those "little things" that makes the tacoma as great as it is, like the 9 cupholders in a tony accesscab haha, this is my 7th vehicle in 4 years and the most cupholders i've ever had was ONE in my 2003 wrx, so this gorgeous truck of mine has more than made up for it.

The plastic protectors are on the back of the back door and on the front of the rear fender as shown in this pic. There is also a textured finish (I have heard it called Tough Skin) along the bottom edge of the doors.

probably because its more of a street truck. the clear guards are designed to protect the paint from off-roading debris, so i believe only the prerunners and 4x4 probably have it

I wish there was an option to have the whole truck coated in that plastic.

    I have the plastic.
    Along the same lines...
Is the thick hammered finish along the bottom of the cab standard?
