TSB Rear Leaf

How many of you have done the TSB for the rear suspension? I have a 2011 TRD sport dual cab. Did the ride get to stiff? did the yride change allot? let me know the dealer is going to order my parts and I just want to hear some opinions of people who have done it...... thanks in advance.

 

Just had it done on my Off Road. Yes it does stiffen up the ride a bit, but I personally like it. I though the factory springs were to soft. Its a truck, it should ride like a truck.

It also raised the rear about a inch, so now its prime for a easy lift.

 

Did some experimenting today on my brand new Tacoma DC Sport 4X4 w/towing package (1185 miles). I loaded the bed up with 500 lbs. of free weights. Unloaded, it was 36 inches from the bottom of the fender flare to the ground. With the 500 lbs., the clearance dropped to 33 3/4 inches--2 1/4 inches of sag.

Then, I proceeded to go for a drive to check it out under load. As soon as I was on the highway I could tell something wasn't right. The steering was very "soft" due to the weight on the rear and the ride was very rough--I could feel every bump in the road. Next, I proceeded to take it down a semi-rough dirt road. I could feel it bottoming out. I got out and checked the bump stops and you could see where it had been hitting.

Needless to say, I'm very disappointed and wish I had known this before I purchased this truck. I will be pulling a heavy boat with the truck and have plans to purchase a small travel trailer. I'll be meeting with the service manager at the dealership where I purchased the truck on Thursday at a customer appreciation dinner. I plan to mention the problem then and we'll see what happens.

 

yeah well I'm in the same boat. The dealer is ordering the parts for the TSB on mine. so hopefully I will not regret it do it. I know what you mean with the truck sagging. I had a grille, tents, chairs all the stuf for camping and it droped about 2 inches more or less..... sucks that I paid 27G's and this is happening.

well I'm looking to buy an RV so hopefully with the new leaf I could pull it with no problems do to sagging..... I'll keep you updated..

 

From the sounds of it, you do not have the TSB leaf springs. The problem you described is the very reason they exits.

I think they don't put the TSB leaf springs on from the factory due to the stiffness in rid. They know us Americans prefer comfort over usefulness. They figure if someone actually uses their truck as a truck, then they will give them the upgrade.

 

Yea, I've got the three leaf version. I'm going to hit 'em up for the upgrade. Maybe they won't give me any crap. By the way, my dealer is Valdosta Toyota in Valdosta, GA. Anybody else on here had any dealings with them on this or any other issues?

 

you wont be disappointed. i did mine and even the TSB pack is a little weak w 500lbs in the bed. if you get a camper youll prob end up doing helpers or air bags anyway.

 

on a side note whats the difference brtween getting the rear tsb vs a 1" AAL (if they even make them? would the AAL be stronger or the new leaf pack

 

Just a note (I have posted this many times before) for new TW members...

My 2005 DC bottomed out when I had rear seat passengers or a load in the bed over any bump. I reported this to my dealer, but all I got was that the ride was softer because most prefer that over using the truck as a truck... no TSB mention (or was I aware of... my pre-TW days). I solved the problem myself with Ride Rite Air Bags and Bilstein 5100s in back. That was an excellent solution.

My 2010 DC (built in Baja) also has a 3 leaf rear spring pak... However, it does NOT bottom out under the same (or any) conditions, so far. So, at least on my new truck the springs are better... I kept my air bags off the '05 in case I would need them on the '10... but not yet... 25,000 miles on my '10!

I am curious as to why they still have so many of the older model springs and are still using them when they obviously have made stiffer springs?

If you read through the many threads on this subject, you will see that over 99% are happy they had the tsb done. I think I've only seen two or three comments about the ride being too stiff and not happy they had the tsb done.

I had my truck done and I am so happy with the results. The ride is much better. Don't have the body roll while turning corners and she rides 1000x better when loaded.

 

I had the TSB springs put on mine too.

They made it a little stiffer and added about an inch or so in height, but it rides much better, more like a truck. The truck was too soft in the rear with the original springs and whenever I carried stuff in the bed it would sag noticably.

I've also installed SuperSprings. One of the best investments I've made and definitely worth it for someone who actually uses their truck to haul things.

 

I'm EXTREMELY happy w/ my new TSB. Tiny bit stiffer ride, but 1000 times better than the grandma-car ride of the previous springs. Just finished a 4k+ road trip, and it was smoooooooth. Rides much better than my girlfriend's Honda Accord, and having my 500lb bike in the back doesn't make it sag... as much. Get it done - you'll be fine.

Getting mine done in the morning. Then I'm going to a few good rough roads and trails and see what happens. Will let you know. Hoping the shocks get replaced like the asst. service manager said. If they don't, I still get the new leaf packs which is all I wanted anyway. Then I'll get me a set of 5100's.

 

The shock replacement was only on the non TRD models (they put trd shocks on them).

I think they stopped the shock replacement in '10.

 

I'm also going to get my TSB next week, 09 double cab TRD Sport. I noticed that the ride would sag/bottom out when I would load my dirtbikes, cooler, etc. to go riding. We also have a toneau cover when the bikes are not in, it's pretty heavy. Even my DJ gear loaded would cause the stock springs to be too soft/bottom out. I like the smooth ride when not loaded but I'm willing to take a chance that the TSB springs are not overly stiff, I'll keep you all posted.

 

Got the TSB done. It's definitely a stiffer ride. But it's a truck not a sedan. No new shocks though. Didn't think I would get them because the TSB didn't call for it. Damn asst. service manager had my hopes up. Now to get some 5100's when the OE Billies go bad. Handles off road a lot better also. IMHO, get it done even if you think you don't need it.

 

I have a 2010 DC LB Sport prerunner with the TSB. Prior to the TSB it would hit the bump stops somewhat with a 700 LB load and a lot with a 1000 LB load. It does not bottom out at all with the 1000 LB load and handles the load MUCH better. Empty, I could not tell a difference with the empty ride before or after the TSB. Since they don't replace the shocks on the sport when you get the TSB, there is not much difference in the ride. If you have a model that does get new shocks, you will notice a stiffer ride.

 

I have the appointment for monday see what happens......

 

my rear end squeaks after 1000 miles. Any chance this TSB upgrade will fix that?
