15' Subwoofer

Hi, I have a 15' sub from Kicker. It says the Peak is 500 Watts. If I get a 1,000 watt amp, will I blow it out quickly? Or is that only if I put the thing on blast?

You can turn the gain down but it's not going to fit in a Tacoma. If you do not turn the game down you can burn up the voice coil when playing loudly for an extended period.

Then again I don't have much experience with 15 foot diameter kicker speakers.

Peak power handling is also significantly less than r m s or continuous power. Always look at rms not peak on speakers and amps.

Hey now mythbusters made a three foot sub but you couldn't enjoy it because you coulnt fit inside the car with it lol

 

the amp wont likely be 1000 watts rms depending on how you wire it

 

for a 15 foot sub, you're gonna need more than a 1000 watt amp. more like 100000000 wats

 

You'll be fine as long as you turn the gain up all the way and play it at max volume.

My Buddy has a Solerbaric 15" with 1200 watts running to it in his Tige' boat, it literally makes your jaw rattle. Thats in an open air wakeboard boat! Cant imagine what it would be like in a truck. From what I have heard, quality power wont blow speakers, distortion and cheap power does?

 

Its actually not that bad when you put the seats up it muffles it some im glad I got 13.5 inch sub so its not so muffled

 

Clipped power will kill a sub sooner than clean power. But too much of anything and it will get smoked regardless.
