Just gir ride and ride often. Get hooked up withna group that likes to ride, it will hold you accountable to show up.

Riding with at least one other person is a good idea from an accountability stand point and safety. I've had some pretty nasty spills, including dislocating my shoulder once, so it's a good idea to have someone else around.

Accountability is always a great thing with any exercise. It's why people have success with trainers. It's not just them teaching you, it's them holding you accountable and not letting you slack off.

I never skip out on early morning rides when I am meeting people, but I have skipped out on early morning road rides when I was going to be riding by myself. My wife does the same thing with running...she has a running group and they hold each other accountable.

The accountable thing won't work for me I'm on call 24/7 and work on the road so it'll be hard for me to ride every day.

I have a camelback, cytomax, and gloves I also have a helmet but there's no way I'm wearing a motocross helmet around town on a mtn bike. I was thinking about buying lights for the bike just haven't really looked into them much yet.

You may want to upgrade before hitting the trails with that thing. I used to have a similar bike that I used for getting around at school. This is what dropping off a 3' ledge did to the "forks"

Not to thread jack, but what tubeless mtb tires yall running? My first is a wtb tcs Mutano 2.2". Seems to work great but gonna wear too quick. Just ordered a Maxxis crossmark. Trying to stay 600-800 gram range. WTBs tcs are basically a tubeless bead but thinner carcass than UST, so lighter but recommend a sealant.

Running Geax AKA TNT. I've used Geax Gato and Saguaro. The Gato grips but has some rolling resistance as it it a mud tire. Both AKA and Saguaros grip well and roll well.

Ive used a Crossmark front and kenda small block 8 rear. This combo worked well.

Before I bought my truck I wanted to know if a 29er would fit in a short bed (5ft) tacoma with the tailgate closed. It does. I mounted a fork mount in a 2x4 and the tailgate shuts and it fits inside my ARE MX shell. I would have liked the fork mount in the rear part of the bed, but the handlebars hit the hatch door to the shell. But it's no problem having the fork in the front due to the windoor on the drivers side. My bike's a Moots Mooto X Ybb with a Rohloff speedhub. It's my dream bike and I love it.
    Peace

Not in you weight range but I thought id share that I run Kenda Kinetics 2.35s. I use them on UST wheels. I have to say that I love tubeless tires. I haven't had a flat in 2 years and we have lots of cactus and goat heads in so. Utah.

Not going to be going that hardcore with it. Mostly use it to go between geocaches and hit up all of the "rail trails" and river trails around the area.
Not too many harsh terrain areas around here.
That could've ended pretty bad though

What would be some better choice reasonably priced bikes I could look at though? Tough to search for on the internet, I wasn't having much luck.

great info guys. I actually just ordered a Crossmark and anxious to give it a run. I don't need to run a sealant with my wheels, but kinda like the idea for extra thorn protection. Brent are you running some goop with your Kenda's? Ive read that Kenda tires sometime delaminate inside with Stans??????? 2 years flat free is awesome

Well it depends, coming from your current bike then "reasonably priced" may seem like 200 or 300 $. For someone who has been into mountian biking and riding regularly for a year or two and looking for a good hardtail, then 800-1200$ may seem good. Basically, just go to local bike shops and sample some and ride different frame sizes. An entry level hardtail mtb is gonna be around $400 and feel like a cadillac compared to what you came from and be very reliable and durable. If you want full suspension, you're looking at 800-1500$ with very low end components. If you have a friend who is into the sport you can get a lot more bang for buck scoping out lightly used rigs on eGay and websites like Wheelworld.com sometimes have 2 or 3 yo models for 40-70% off. I've had great luck with ebay: my first full susp. rig was an 03 Marin that listed for 2200 and I bought in spring of 05, brand new for 700. My current bike is an 07 model that was ridden for a year and I paid 1800 for, and the seller included his original purchase receipt with bike for 3850. I had several years of riding hardtails and fully rigid rigs before I ever went looking for a fs. If you run across anything your curious about or have questions or concerns about, then post it up and we'll give you some thoughts.
