You are plenty old enough, if you think she's really "the one" and you are ready to settle down, go for it!! I got married at 25 and no regrets, I ignored all the naysayers. It is your personal choice and you don't need to sell it to anyone. Good luck to you and your future bride!

seen alot of dudes get married quick and it just doesnt work, i know youve been together 4 years and thats legit, however the military lifestyle isnt for everyone and you have to let the girl adjust or she may get overwhelmed and bounce on ya. jm2c

If there's NO doubt in your heart she's the one...
However, your young. Personally I'd stay single a little longer just to get yourself stablized (more for her than yourself). Besides, there's lots of fish in the sea. ;)

Thanks for your willingness to serve!!!

My advice is to try it out for 10 yrs to make sure you can both handle the long haul with each other. You never know them til you live with them............Thanks in advance for your pending service.

Marriage is overrated in my books. The only thing it means, is that she gets half of what you own, and I'm not down with that.

Bullshit- is that like Sex Panther? 60% of the time it works everytime?

Basic is a good trial (seen other post), if she can deal with the lack of calls (at least that how it was in my day) and you stressed out then she can handle the Army lifestyle. Just remember that you are each others anchor to dealing with a military life. Been with mine for over 10yrs now. It's like anything else, you have to make it work. Just make sure its what you both want and only rush it if you "choose" to. Make sure she understands now though that if the military says work the weekend or work late some night you dont have a choice. If you both feel ready you shouldnt have any problems.

    Good luck!!

You're too young. Wait a few years and see how you guys deal with the military lifestyle first. Plus...you don't really "know" someone until you've lived with them.

I met my last girlfriend at 20 years old, we dated for 4 years. We lived together 3 of those 4 years. I thought she was the one and we planned on getting married. But shit happens. She moved to another state to go to vet school and the long distance didn't work out (Never does). Fortunately there were no hard feelings, we realized things weren't working and things just fizzled out, we're still friends (she's coming in town next week to visit). There are other girls out there for sure. It took me a while to grasp that even after we split. Have my first official date tonight with a new girl. It's hard to think about, but your dad is right. Mine said the same thing to me.

Making it through basic and A school is one thing when you can have consistent correspondence with each other, but your first deployment is going to be one of many "tests'" that you will encounter in the military. It's true what some have said about it not working in the military a lot of the time because you spend so much time at work and to top it all off, most of the time you will both be moving to an area that you are unfamiliar with which can also cause stress. Not trying to sound like a downer, just trying to help you make an informed decision. Best of luck.

I know SO many kids from my school that got married when they were like 18 or 19, just because they were going into the military. I think it's pretty dumb...

You're 21 though, so you're a little older, and you guys have been together 4 years. Hopefully you guys can make it through everything. :)

Good luck to you whatever you decide. I'd suggest joining up first. Military is a complicated lifestyle. I think you need to give it your all or not do it. If she is the one, she'll still be there.

Im dual military(my wife is in as well) we have been through 12 months in Iraq and 12 months in Afghanistan together, yet not at the same FOB. Two years without seeing eachother and she just left for her 5th deployment (all 12 months) last FEB. I married her right of the bat when I joined. Best thing Ive ever did in my life. Its hard serving your country and your family at the same time, but don't let her go if shes special. But it can and does work out. Just takes more work on your end. Good Luck!

I was with my girl for almost 2 years when I went to basic. We had lived together before I joined and as I was leaving for tech school I asked her to marry me. We got married almost a year later and have been happily married ever since. I joined the AF at 19 got married at 20 and am 22 now. Age doesn't mean immaturity and only you know what's right for you, not your dad and not anyone else. Since I joined we have spent A LOT of time apart and it sucks (basic 6.5 weeks, tech school 14.5 weeks, 5 months when I first got to my duty station, a 4 month deployment, and currently on a 6 month deployment) Keep in mind that was all in 3 year time frame.

    Good luck with you're decision!
