MPG SUCKKKS!!

Hey guys so i checked my mpg on a trip to Arizona. Each time i filled up the tank i was getting 12.5 miles per gallon!!!! This is horrible for all highway going 75? I do have a 4x4 with 3 inch lift and 33s, but i would think i should at least get 15mpg? Any input??

You're driving a lifted truck at near 80MPH. Not exactly aerodymanic. MT tires are the greatest for MPG neither.

Try keeping your RPMs under 2K while driving. Really improves the MPG.

I dunno but thats poop mpg. The mega cab ram 2500 i drove for a while got that lol

 

these two ^^ the farther and faster your foot goes down the more gas your using

 

Mines the same bro 3" lift with 33's and i made a trip home to colorado and got 13 mpg! HORRIBLE... I did notice that if I didnt use cruise control I could control the rpms more keeping it in a higher gear. Not really sure if it helped but it made me feel better driving at lower rpm's. Ill sacrafice mpg's tho cuz I love the way my truck looks with 3" and 33's

 

1. don't forget to adjust your calculations for the increased tire size...10 miles on 33s really isn't 10, it's more like 11 miles traveled so 12.5 mpg is really 13.75 mpg (roughly) unless you got your speedo recalibrated
2. anything >70mph will start to kill your mpgs for sure..lifted truck with tall wide tires = mpg killer

 

ha, try having 20's w/13.5 wide load E tires. myabe try adding psi to ur tires to get more mpg.

 

clean your intake filter or replace if OEM, get new spark plugs, change oil to synthetic, inflate tires to proper pressure, drive below 65 mph, don't do jack rabbit take offs, have you done the 30,000 mile maintenance?

Ya i have had my 30,000 mile maintance. Geuss i should clean spark plugs and clean out air filter.

 

thats probably one of the main reasons i didnt get rims and tires. the mpg were already bad as it is, stock. not to mention, im also broke

 

I have your answer:

 

I do 70 on the freeway, with 33 all terrains and 3 inch lift. I get 21-23 mpg

 

Is your truck a Prerunner or 4wd?

 

I gained 2-3 MPGs just by keeping my truck under 70 at all times on the Highway. I have noticed that if I stay in the left lane, I feel like I am trying to keep up or stay ahead of the person behind me. If I stay in one of the middle lanes, I can stay more consistent with my speeds. In your case, if the Speed Limit is 75 MPH, don't go over 75. Choose the lane that will let you be the most consistent with the skinny pedal.


Also keeping the RPMs down, by choosing the highest gear for the speed.

 

if you didn't reprogram the ecm for the bigger tires then your fill up mileage will be off... I went from 245/75/16 to 265/70/17 every 100 miles my mileage was off almost 6 mpg. even on my scan gauge 2 but, here's the kicker... ( before the lift and tires... my gps was showing 2 mph faster then my speed-0 on the truck.. pretty much all cars and trucks are programmed that way..) after reprogramming the ecm my mileage went back up. I have reprogramed my computers in my taco 4 times..

 

Get P rated ATs and you'll gain back 2 mpg...ask me how I know.

 

I use E rated 33" KM2 mud terrains and I never get under 16 on the highway. If long flat road, I'll get 18 in a no-wind kind of day.

Which was surprising given I have a roof rack I can't fold away, and a big ARB bumper.

The skinny 10 inch tires probably help though.

This is calibrated mileage from the scangauge.

completely irrelevant. Different motors, cab configurations, and tire sizes.
