I agree with this. Nothing bad can come from asking the right people.

 

They are well aware of the people that hang out there. My building is in a bad neighborhood. One of the employees was mugged in the same parking lot not too long ago. There have been shootings at the apartments directly behind this fancy new fence. There have also been several other break ins which prompted them to put up "Park at your own risk" signs on the fence they just installed.

I've informed my manager, and I'm talking to HR and the Facilities manager.

Garmin Lock:

Garmin's anti-theft feature disables the unit from performing any functions until a specific 4-digit PIN is typed in or the unit is taken to a predetermined location.

Simply enter a 4-digit PIN and select a Security Location. Write down your PIN and keep it in a safe place. Each time you turn on the GPS, enter your PIN to unlock the GPS. If you forget your PIN, you can go to your Security Location.

Note: If you forget your PIN, and your Security Location, Garmin cannot unlock your GPS over the phone; you must send your GPS to Garmin to get it unlocked.


There is some advice we can offer which will stop you becoming a target:

• Don't leave the unit's mount in view - thieves will assume the unit is elsewhere in the vehicle
• Make a note of the model and serial number
• Take your GPS with you
• Wipe away suction pad marks on the windscreen - thieves will look for these
• Don't leave your GPS in the glove box - thieves will check there first

Yea I just found that out when I called Garmin to report it stolen. When I buy a new one I will put that to use.

Couldn't the crooks just look at your registration/insurance info and get your address? Seems easier to me than going into GPS settings to find home....

 

Sorry to hear about this. I'm in Denver as well and my truck got broken into last November. They tried to steal a bunch of stuff. In doing so they scratched the hell out of the dash and my insurance company paid to replaced everything that was damange (5.5k minus my deductable). Didn't affect my insurance rates or anything. You should check with your insurance see if it's smoething they will cover. The GPS, unless it is indash, will not be covered unfortunately though. Do your homework and you can come out on top. I think they can track the GPS......ask the cops.

I don't think you have anything to worry about with them coming to your home , sad trith is the GPS is already at a pawn shop or drug dealers house and is more than likely erased - so they can't prove stolen with your home address.

 

I hate thieves. I'm pretty sure you can get some local guys on here to help fix the truck if needed...

 

jeez, some people are total scrotes. what was your deductible? it looks like that damage was more than 500-1000 bucks... esp if they bend the door frame.

 

I really hope you're right. I could care less about the GPS itself, but it's the data I had on it that I'm worried about in addition to the valuables in my home. They didn't take the garage door opener or anything either, so it would seem that it was just some scum that was hard up for cash.

I think the truck is ok. I had the window replaced this morning, and the guy that replaced the window bent the door back as best he could and it's barely noticeable.

 

You should find them and violate them with a crowbar.

 

If I could catch just ONE of the 6 bastards that has broken into my vehicles in the past.... give me 3 weeks, a basement, and a dull spoon.

You should already have a gun if you're a capable adult male. By the time you need it, it's too late. Just....don't keep it in your truck.

Seriously though, sorry for your situation - definitely a "why me?" moment.

 

Put a duffle bag in the bed. Put a Rat trap in the duffle bag. Let the games begin.
