3" ToyTec lift w/ Med Front Coils & Rear AAL. Who likes it and who doesn't?

Just read this... the TSB AAL from toytec works on non-TSB trucks

 

Naw, I just ordered them online. I didn't get the TSB leafs though I know that for a fact.

 

So for my DC prerunner I am getting 5100s for front and rear, set fronts to 2.5" and get toytec rear AALs for non TSB. Is this correct and all I'll need. No UCAs, extended brake lines, etc. right? Then I can run my current 265 BFG ATs until I move up to 285s which is when i'll need to do some trimming and remove mud guards.

Brake lines aren't needed, but to get the alignment right, new UCAs are necessary. With the stock UCA, they can get the alignment pretty dang close, but not "right". Also, if you have a 4x4, a diff drop is a really good idea too.

 

No I had a shop do my whole install. I'm not the greatest mechanic. Good guys. Great work!

 

but don't let the UCA thing scare ya... I ran 20k miles with stock UCAs without any adverse tire wear. The truck drove well, but the steering felt loose.

 

Well I just left my local Toyota dealership here in Rome Ga and I asked them about the TSB. They ran my VIN and told me they cant do anything. Is this true? Because if I can get the TRD suspension at no charge I would like to take advantage of that...

 

If your warranty is expired then I think your screwed. Not positive though but that's the word on the street.

 

Oh BS. I'll complain til I get it. My truck has just rolled over to 40000.

The TSB is only covered until 36000 miles manufacturers warranty.

What can you expect to pay for this install?

 

It all depends on where you get it installed as well. I actually had a hard time finding a place to do my install because of liability issues. Luckily a buddy of mine had a friend that owned his own shop. Charged me $600 for my install that included installing my OME 885's and rear AAL's, all around 5100's, Total Chaos UCA's, wheels and tires mounted and balanced, did my trimming up front and final alignment.

If you know how to work a socket wrench, a jack and jack stands and another car to make a run to an auto shop, you can do the install yourself. It's really easy, just takes a little time. If you're just replacing the coils or the shocks on the front, take off the stock strut/coil assembly, take them and your new parts to PepBoys (they'll assemble them for you for $40), then go home and bolt them back on. Then, all you need is an alignment. For the rear AAL, all you need is two C-clamps and a socket wrench.

I had VERY LITTLE mechanical experience and barely had the right tools, but I installed my coilovers and UCAs in about 8 hours. It only cost me about $30 for the install (beer and pizza for me and my buddy).

 

Hey you had the time and help!!! I didn't have neither! It was all good though. I had the money so I just said screw it! I was also lagging and dragging it on for so long I said screw it!!!

 

I know the 5100's are recommended to install when you do the lift, but how bad will it be if I dont intall the shocks right away?

 

From what I heard from a lot of people its not to bad at all. Like if its just temporary, you should be solid.
