Suggest a Radar Detector

The question was not how to avoid getting speeding tickets but what is the best radar detector. There is only one way to make sure you don't get a speeding ticket and that is obviously not to speed. However, if you do decide to buy a radar detector, which is a personal choice, there are ones that are better then others.

 

I use an Escort 8500 blue display in the truck. Other car has a K40 custom install with Blinder lidar diffusers.
They are tools though. It's not a free pass to speed everywhere all day long putting others at risk. I utilize them just like I would a firearm. It's there IF you need it.

 

x10 on the Valentine 1! I have noticed it can "see" around corners, over hills, around a corner AND a hill, etc... I actually rarely go above the speed limit (my ex-wife always called me grandpa) but my parents bought it for me...

 

I used to speed, and now rarely go over. The reason? I compared the time it was taking me to drive from my place to my parent's at 65 and 75. I saved about 2 to 5 minutes but spent more in gas.

The best way to use a radar detector is to drive as if you don't have one.

Then...
Drive casual, don't bring attention to yourself.




Go a little slower than the fastest car (go faster than 90%, slower than 10%). Don't drive a yellow Corvette or bright red Porsche. Get your CCW permit, it may get you a warning instead of a ticket. Get a 'Blue Line' sticker too. If you are a chick, 36DD works better than 34A.

My BF's son got pulled over for speeding 5 over, he has no respect for authority and thinks he is a thug, well he ended up in jail w/4 misdemeanors and the car towed. Speeding and headlight out led to possession of marijuana, possession of a buldging object, maybe there was a 5th but I can't think of it. He didn't call his Dad right away and thought if he plead guilty they would let him out right then, well he spent the weekend in jail and then had $1400 in fines, plus tow fees.
He didn't learn anything from it, cause he just ended up with 3 felonies let's just say I'm not so fond of him.

I've thought about getting a radar detector, then figured it wasn't worth it. I did buy one for my little sister one year, she was going to speed anyway figured it my save my Dad some $$.

 

I've got a Beltronics in my daily driver, but I don't speed. I like to know where the cops are. Most of them use Laser out here for speed traps. That detector scares the crap out of me when it goes off.

 

V1 is the truth... saved me a couple times driving back and forth from Tallahassee to Jacksonville (most boring drive ever!)
