First Full Wash and Wax

So I got done yesterday with a full wash, clay, and wax of the taco. And I must say. She look as good as new.

Just wanted to make a few points/questions.

Wash/dry: I used Meguiar's Gold Class Wash and Conditioner and a wash mitt from Griots Garage. Washed great, but I was worried about the soap drying too quickly. I was under shade, but the back end was out in the sunlight. Any tips for this? Do you wash and rinse in sections? Used a Microfiber towel to dry truck off.

Clay: Used clay bar kit from Mother's to clay truck. Amazing the stuff that comes off with it, and how smooth it feels afterwards. Only problem I had was the Showtime instant detailer running down the truck, but easily wiped away with towel. This was probably the most tedious and took the longest, but absolutely worth the results.

Wax: Used Griot's garage "Best of Show" Wax, an applicator from the Vroom brand from Target, and a Wax removal microfiber cloth from Griots. I wanted to do it the old fashioned way and give the taco a hand wax. This is quite the workout, but I loved it. The shine that The Best of Show Wax leaves behind is unbelievable. Highly reccommended. Same questions with wax, do you guys do the whole truck? Or just in sections? I did section by section, just to be safe. Also, when waxing, be sure to find a clean peice of cloth once yours gets dirty. One cloth barely lasted me the whole truck.

Grille: I'm doing this seperatly for one thing. Love bugs. I hate these things. I dont understand their purpose besides getting smashed into peoples grills and damaging paint. I unfortuanately left them on a little to long and they were caked into the grill and plastic. I tried the magic eraser, dryer towels, and warm water. These all helped, but didn't get off completely. I found out by accident something that works like a charm. Rain-X 2 in 1 glass cleaner.



I was wiping the winshield when i saw that the love bugs that were caked on there were coming off with ease. I spot tested it on a small part of the paint, and tried it. Same result. No damage to the paint, just wipe off with a microfiber towel softly. You might have to loosen the love bugs with nails or warm water, but it was pretty amazing how well they cleaned off the windsheild, grille, headlights and small parts of paint with ease. Much better than anything else I have tested. Also made my windows crystal clear.


Here is the final result. I apologize for the poor cell phone quality, but you can still see the reflection off the paint. Very proud of myself, and will make this a every other week to week tradition.

I haven't waxed mine and it's been almost 2 years. I should probably get on that haha

You got your detailing stuff at a local shop? I'm not sure where to get it

 

Pretty much. I got most of my detailing stuff from Autozone/Advanced Auto Parts/ Pep-Boys type of place. Places like Super Target also had a great line of microfibers/washes/waxes etc.
