Nothing major or fancy. Just stuff to make it work better for me. Running boards, seat covers, BakFlip
Bossy little prick, aren't you? You're just frustrated 'cause you lack the mechanical skills, or maybe the balls, to try out a simple procedure. Don't take it out on us.

the plug fix is only for 2011 tacoma's that are built in jan 2011 and on. the other fix through the cluster works for everything before jan 2011. so the 2011's that were built before jan2011 will work with the odo cluster fix

i have the 2011 built before jan. and i used the odo. trick... it worked, bu the dealer switched it back when they changed my oil.

i haven't re done it yet, because it makes my friend that i car pool with put his belt on.. he doesnt usually wear it, and i figure if we do wreck, he probably wont buy me a new windshield so he has to wear it

I've got to give this a try. I drive my truck at low speed around my property with no seatbelt and that damn dinging pisses me off.

I can't stand late model vehicles that try to drive the car for me... I KNOW when to put my fucking seatbelt on, leave me alone about it!

Wow... didn't mean to hit a nerve. I am deeply sorry for my callous request. If I had said please, would it have made you feel better?

I'd just like to make sure that I don't trigger the airbags to deactivate or some other unintended yet tragic result when doing this. It isn't normal to pull plugs in most new vehicles without getting some inside information from the manufacturer. From the original post on that particular fix, it seemed to indicated that further substantiation would be a good idea.

I dont know if this will help anybody, but I tried doing this mod and had a hard time till I figured out my retardedness. Since I drive a manual, my habit is I throw it into neutral and hold the brake. Since this is pretty much engrained habit, I didnt realize it until the 3rd time was trying this mod that I was holding the brake.

If anybody having trouble also has this same habit, I hope it helps. Got it to finally work on my 2010

Put wife in the truck bed. It significantly improved the quality truck's music.
We still need a fix for the passenger side on post-Jan2011 Tucoma's. I like the comment above (almost spit my coke across the desk when I read it), but unfortunately the chimes on the passenger side don't get the same reaction out of my Brittany as it does his son. $%^& dog won't put his seatbelt on no matter how many times it chimes. So appreciate it if anyone solves this for the passenger side.

X2 the only thing I've found out about the new cluster is to turn the oil light off it has to be on trip a with the newer ones which is different than they used to be maybe someone can take that info and come up with a solution

Others have detailed this, read the previous pages. If you have the latest dash electronics (you can tell by the console gauge package), it won't work. Instead you have to unplug the sensor under the driver's seat. There's no fix for the passenger seat, since on that side it also enables/disables the passenger air bag.

Came back from Lowes after picking up supplies. Bed was full of stuff, so I put the two buckets of wallboard mud in the passenger side, one on the floor and one on the seat. The truck chimed away screaming at my bucket of wallboard mud to put on it's seatbelt. Like my Brittany, it ignored the warning. We need a fix for the passenger side of these post-January 2011's...

Looking for solutions for the 2011's, I found this somewhere:

Your dealer has to do it through their own computer interface. Given the inevitable questions about legality that crop up in these types of threads, the following are U.S. Department of Transportation standards:

What is installed in today's vehicles by manufacturers are called "enhanced warning features" and can be legally deactivated. This is what the custom features posted allow the dealer to do. Given that we live in a litigious age, some dealers may balk at changing this setting. At any rate, if your dealer does turn off the two settings the vehicle will still be legally compliant with the legal requirement of sounding the buzzer for not less than 4 seconds and not more than 8 seconds if the drivers seat belt is not fastened.

I tried the "you-can-turn-it-off-yourself" routine many times until I saw enough posts to learn that my March 2011 Tacoma could only be done by a dealer. So I got on the phone and called around. Lithia Motors in Billings, MT (where I purchased the vehicle)... "absolutely not because it's illegal". Fremont Toyota in Lander, WY... "sure, we can turn it off for $98". Garvin Motors in Powell, WY... "sure, stop by any time, it only takes a few minutes but we charge $37 for a minimum charge and paperwork". I only had about 2500 miles built up but made a special trip to Powell (about 200 miles round trip) to get it done. I went nuts listening to that damn thing just driving from the garage to the barn and didn't want to wait until the first service interval. The mechanic just hooked up to the trouble-shooting system and sent some codes to do the deed. Maybe some renegade Toyota mechanic will someday publish the codes and save us all a lot of aggravation and money. Other than that... we love our Taco.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMM Been called a lot of things but never been called a renegade before. hehehehe

no codes. need the proper scan tool to read the customizing features.

AWO hit it right on the head. I shut them off all the time.

I think I'll make a cut a paste paragraph or put it in my sig.
There is no legal reason not to turn off a custom feature.
A lot safer than pulling connectors. ;)

I went to 4 dealerships in San Diego. The firsat one said no. Liability issues. 2nd one said once i get toyota to open a trouble shooting ticket then they could do it. Called and opened the ticket went back and told them the ticket number and after waiting for this manager to talk to the other one and so on for like 30 minutes, I am told they want do it its illegal. Number 3 told me liability issues. and number 4 told me the same as number 2 and then told me that its too much of a liability to turn it off. They changed it in 11 because too many people had figured out how to turn the chime off. This is a crock of shit. I had my book bag in my passenger seat with a couple books and the damn thing wouldn't shut up. Finally had to strap in my bookbag to get thwe damn thing to shut up. I know with all these tacoma owners, someone works at a dealership. Help us out. PLEASE!!!!!!!
