add steering wheel buttons

My truck has the steering wheel audio controls - love em. on the other side (right) of the wheel, it has "blanks" which on the 09 that i test drove was where the bluetooth controls were. Has anybody added custom switches for stuff to the steering wheel on the right side?

 

There was a guy at T4R.org (I think t4r) that added the bluetooth switches to his 4runner... trying to find it...

 

oooo i didnt know that... well looks like i'm gonna start looking into that for a mod! I'll race you to it!!!

 

Found it -- this guy installed a Solara Nav unit into his Runner. About half way down he shows install of the bluetooth controls.

very cool - i had that idea to get that bluetooth switch and see if i could modify it for an aftermarket HU. excellent to see someone has blazed that trail! any other suggestions for stuff to control from there - lights? dome light on/off? garage door opener (homelink)? hmmm

 

yeah, i wonder if the button part is a standalone part or what..

 

i might swing by my dealer and see if i can order a new blank cover like is there now. if i get one, then i'll look for some little push button switches and find a mod to install that i can control i'm doing bed lights this weekend, maybe thats an option

I was studying this a bit.. it seems though that there is that blue plug.. we dont have that for sure. I bet theres a different setup for the tacoma though.. or probably going to have to take that wire apart and hang the mic differently.. I'll keep researching.

 

Anybody have any luck with this?
