Mahindra trucks to hit US Fall, 2009.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but I'm very interested in an Indian company thats preparing to sell small turbo diesel pickups in the US called Mahindra. Honestly, this is the kind of truck I've been BEGGING Toyota to make for years now, which is a small, fuel efficient, diesel truck. I'm not sure if I'm willing to be a Guinna Pig and try it out first, but if they're good, I seriously might consider one if Toyota doesn't build something similar.

Damn That's ugly i do how every have one of there tractors $90 for a filter and it a mitzubishi motor.

 

there tractors are like tanks, Bart is right, expensive to fix but damn well made

Edit: is there a 4x4 model? I bet it would wheel like a bat outa hell seeing hoe it is so compact and diesel!!

That rear wheel looks so close to the back of the cab that if you put a ton in the bed like they advertise, you're not going to have much steering if the front wheels stay on the ground at all.

 

maybe toyota will get the hint and make a diesel for us now

 

interesting stats. the 7.5' bed on the 2 door is interesting. looks tiny, im not sure how well they will sell since people rather have a large compact truck imo.

 

Ya, it is pretty ugly. Looks like a 70's Datsun. But that's sort of why I like it. Its unintentionally retro looking. Hell- it has hooks OUTSIDE the bed! When was the last time you saw that? Oh ya- for "optional" accessories, one of them is a snow plow! Any truck that has farm implements as accessories is awesome in my book.

 

I think that the north american market is BEGGING for something like this. Not something i'd need, but think about it. If you painted offices, or washed windows or had a business that didn't require a ton of equipment, but required you to get around in a busy metropolis, and needed good fuel economy, what would you buy for a brand new vehicle?

I don't think i'd be a 30 ft long doublecab taco that gets 17 city mpg! Nothing against yota or nissan, but there's a big gap in the market right now.

 

That little truck looks like it would be pretty sweet. Would be a good work truck. I talked to my local dealer the other day, he told me there would be a Tundra with a Hino diesel on the lots in mid 2010. I don't know if that will be just in Canada or not. He said Toyota is in the process of manufacturing the motors to meet the expected demand. I asked him about a diesel Tacoma, he said no plans yet.

I also liked how even though it looks pretty clunky, it comes with a stereo system that has USB and MP3 jacks. I read a bit more about Mahindra. They still make Jeeps that are closer to the WW2 era Willys variety. Lots of armys in Africa use them, so they really take a severe beating.

My take is if they can get them out for under 20k, say- 15-18k, I might bite. I'd have to do some serious test driving and probably wait a year or two before making a decision. By that time my Taco will probably have close to 300k and it'll be time to trade anyway.

 

That thing is pretty fugly IMO. the diesel is cool but i wouldn't buy one. They're still using an outdated torsion bar front suspension too- where's the CO's?

 

Is it just me or does the cab look extra tall? It looks like you can drive it standing up, LOL - Hey maybe you're running on a treadmill!! (Sorry, that's not nice - I don't want to flame)

Okay, so it's not my cup of tea, but I honestly hope it does well and overall we're putting vehicles on the road that consume less fuel, or are cleaner in burning the fuel....

I know it's ugly, but a Glock is ugly, but is know and has an established reputation to just work.

I hope this truck is one of those third world vehicles that get abused like they do, driven through mud and rivers and can haul 30 people crowded on top of it or several camels.

You know, something that can just take abuse, is not pretty, and just keeps going and going.
