    Hello Tacoma Lovers,
I am in the process of buying 2011 4x4 TRD-OFFROAD. Toyota dealer has recommended me to pay for Platinum extended warranty (7years/100K miles, $2,000, it covers bumper to bumper except for worn out tires, brake pads,,,). There are many people who have already driven 2nd generation 4x4 Tacos for >100k miles. Could you please tell us your repair experience (how much was the repair cost?) before your 4x4 Taco mileage reached 100k miles and your opinion about whether the $2,000 warranty is worth paying? I would definitely drive dirt rough road in some frequency (10~20 days a year). Thank you

Decline their offer unless they can match the price that Troy offers. I bought my 5/100k warranty for a little over $800.

I purchased the 100k warranty for a 09 dbl cab trd. When I got the rear leaf spring tsb done the warranty would cover the springs but they charged me for the new ubolts needed to install the springs. I argued, bitched and moaned but they wouldn't budge. I don't think the extended warrenty is worth it. They will find a way to bleed the money out of you one way or another.

There are guys on TW that sell the same warranty. Got my dealer to match. 2600 down to 900.

Most extended warrantees are worthless for any product. There are so many exclusions, restrictions, blah, blah, blah, they're not worth the headache. Put the $2000 in a bank account you can't easily get to and don't touch it until you have repairs.

Seems to be dealer dependent. I bought my truck used, and sprung for the platinum coverage out to 100k. I then got on here, read about the TSB, towed some things, and decided it was worth doing. I took it to a different dealership, and while it was out of factory warranty (when they are supposed to do the TSB) the service adviser pulled up the platinum warranty coverage, looked up the components that it covered, and determined they could use the extended warranty for the TSB replacement. No cost, in any way.

A great idea, if people have cash to put into said bank account, and the self restriction to not touch it unless for repairs. However, based on the current economic situation, we know that, as a rule, people cannot do this...

With that said, I would not spend $2k for it, or anywhere close to that. I did not have the knowledge to ask them to match anything else, but the dealer I was working with did a few things, and I ended up with it for well under $1k. For me, it worked out. It *normally* is a pass for me, though.

You can buy it for *way* less (the exact same warranty). You can find some places by searching on these forums....

How could the springs be "No cost, in any way" but you paid well under 1k for the warranty?

Warranties=pre-pay for repairs you think might or could happen

You have up to the original 3/36 expiring to buy the Extended plan.
I waited & bought from a Platinum plan from Troy much much cheaper $770.
It was the first time ever I bought one for a Toyota truck since owning at least one since 1987.

I paid about $1000 for it when I bought my 4Runner and it has already paid for itself! I'd say do it if you have a reputable dealer that you trust to work on your truck. If not, save the money and put it towards repairs down the road.

EDIT: Just realized how old this was. Holy thread resurrection Batman!

I don't know about new, but for used I would recomend buying certified(7yr/100k). I bought my 06 certified and never paid for any drive train problems. I brought it in for a squeeky throw out bearing and they replaced the slave cylinder and the shift fork all without any money out of my pocket and I got a camry rental for a few days. I had it in for something else once, but cant remember what. Same results though. No money out of pocket and free rental. I didn't even feel the cost during purchace either. From what I understand it runs around 1k more than without.
For comparison, the amount it would have cost me if it wasn't certified is about 2,600 for the troughout bearing, slave cylinder, shift fork, and labor.

When I bought my truck , I was contemplating on buying the extended warrantym then I thought who cares, two things will happen first. The truck gets lifted" voided warranty" or I pay it off before the 3 year is over. Most Warranties are useless anyhow. read all the fine print..

Yes. Who is Troy? I am about 1500 miles away from the 3/36 factory warranty and might be interested in extending it out.

I just called Troy who works at a dealership in the east coast. He said he can do 600 for a 75000 warranty or 889 dollars for a 100000 one

Check with your insurance company. I bought a mechanical insurance on top of my car insurance with Geico for much less than Toyota.

Plus with non-Toyota insurance I can go to whatever mechanic I want to and don't have to trust the crap shot with going to the closest dealership from where you break down.
