Tuffy Products Oversized Bed Storage Cubbies

These look awesome. Way better than the factory boxes which barely hold a box of Kleen-Ex tissues.

Anyone have experience with these:

Hmmm. They appear to be the same size as the factory boxes. Am I missing something???

The only difference seems to be the locks.

 

Look again. These are over a foot DEEP. The pic shows that they are holding a full gallon of coolant plus a Dewalt cordless drill. The insert down into the fender area. They are deeper well storage.

I'm thinking this would be great for things like loose handtools, flashlights, knives, etc. Looks like a perfect option to hold a ton of useful small things. I'm gonna get two since I do not have the power inverter option on my SR5. I'm thinking flashlights, knives and shooting accessories on one side and an in truck ammo cache on the other. That thing is easily big enough to hold 30 boxes of 223 Rem or a dozen boxes of 308 Win.

 

Yep, some of that cheap tool box liner from Sears would be perfect. I have a truck cap so no risk that they will be picked. Hell, unless somebody got up underneath your Taco's bed one would never know these were installed.

 

Has anyone given thought to modding the stock boxes with fiberglass?

They are a very good idea, but a bit pricey. Maybe a group buy?

I've read somewhere on here that a guy fab'd up one of his own.

Also, how is the weather seal on them?

 

I'm with Yota, seems awfully pricey.

 

I received one as a gift. It's very nice to have - I store extra tie-down fittings, the more expensive ratchet straps, extension cord for my 110V outlet, stuff like that. The weather seal is ok - I haven't had any leaks to speak of. I sprayed the hinge with some Fluid Film to prevent potential rust. Here's a hint for you: if you're going to carry a load of something like compost or beauty bark or dirt or something, stick a piece of duct tape over the lock - I have a key lock, not a combo lock on mine. It will keep the crud out of it.

 

I didn't see, I would assume so, but are these water tight?

 

I was looking to fab a similar replacement out of sheet metal at one point. Money and time disappeared and it hasn't gone any further. A fiberglass DIY would be cool, but if you can use the mounting points of the original and modify from there I think that would be the easiest. If anyone does that, I would love to hear about it! The Tuffy boxes seem awesome, but if I can't afford some sheet metal how could I ever afford them!!

 

For $200 a box, I don't really see the need.

 

me like! but don't like the price! lol. maybe ill save the money and than i would use them. lol. im afraid to use them for much someone way walk around a parking lot an d see whats in and still something.
