What brands/models would be good to look at in the $400 range?

Wanted to ask the guys what you think of a Santa Cruz blur? I am looking at buying a frame and build it. Really want to get into MTBR. I dont mind building one and I think it will be an all around good bike for what I will be using it for. I live in Oceanside Ca so a little bit of everything in socal.

Can't go wrong with a Blur. An LT carbon is certainly on my wish list

Yeah it takes a ton of time and research and talking with other riders to weed out what's good and truth vs bs. I just spent a chunk on crossmax sx wheels (mavic), and almost wish I'd looked a lil closer as the Crosstrails, which may be one of the best value for $ wheelsets available. SRAM has certainly won me over from being a long time shimano loyalist, and is a U.S. Company

    @ Airun

Thats all I have been doing the past few days is research on what is good and what is just hype. It is going to be nice when I do get home and I have a lot of parts waiting for me. WIN!!!

i am running the crosstrails, i like them.

plus could not justify the crossmax cost $$.
might as well save up for a carbon set

love the look of the crossmax's though (the thick spokes look cool)

my crosstrails (i love the crossmark tires as well....kind of have "cross" thing going)

Yeah it's easy to get hypnotized by the bling, for the most part I stay away from high end shifters, derails, brakes etc. Most agree that a good wheelset is not a bad place to drop the dough and so far I agree.
