remove rust from paint

There must've been some tiny metal shavings sitting on the hood of my truck. I now have tiny rust spots on top of the paint. Any ideas what I can use to remove them? Soap and water dont work that great.

 

I've got the same tiny orange dots everywhere... I've heard claybar works to get them off. There have been a couple threads on this actually, try searching for 'rail dust' and see if that's the problem you're having.

 

yep that sounds exactly like what mine is doing. Clay bar it is! I dont think ive ever waxed my truck either....guess I should

 

clay bar ftmfw
it will take that shit out then some
wash it well
clay bar it
then wax it

 

Use Cleaner wax, not clay bar. Clay bar will smooth the finish out in those spots like glass smooth. If you do use clay bar then do whole panel.

 

I've hand washed and waxed and it wouldn't remove those orange dots. FWIW, different people have had success removing those orange dots using various methods so I'm certainly not going to say definitively what works and what won't. But, this guy is right, if you clay bar your hood, plan on doing the whole thing. It'll look like a brand new paint job when you're done.

another question..my fenders are unpainted, but it has a gloss coat on it. It has some dirt stains that water and soap doesnt take out. Glassworks Unlmt said to use acetone to remove the stains. Would it be a specific acetone or something generic? I don't even know if different kinds exist

 

Just use some polish. That'll do it.
