TRS Retro Morimoto High/Lo problem? 2 Part?

This weekend I completed a retrofit using Morimoto d2s ballasts and I’m having some issues with the lights performance, perhaps it is from a bad ballast. Ill explain and see if anyone else has had this issue. Or any recommendations on what my problem could be or how to fix it.

I wired them up just as instructed, and also extended the ground for the passenger side headlight running it back to a ground block on top of the battery. So everything has a good ground.

Upon turning the headlights on, the passenger headlight was hesitant to power up. Turned them on/off a few times and each time the passenger HL either hesitated or did not turn on at all.

I checked all the connections and everything appears solid.

I then switched the ballasts around so that the potentially bad ballast is now on the driver’s side. Same issue. This leads me to believe the ballast is bad.

In either configuration, when I go to hit the High beams the lights go out entirely.

I call TRS, caught someone right before closing so my time was limited. But they mentioned the power wires (White / Blue) could need to be reversed. I did this and then when I turn my lights on, they go straight to HIGH beams but then when I pull the high beam trigger, the lights go out. (At least I know the high/lo solenoid works).

Sooo I switched the ballasts back and put the potentially bad ballast on the passenger side. As is now, both lights power up most of the time. Though again sometimes the passenger will go out after a short period of time... other times it will stay on.

HI/LO's still don’t work.

So I’m going to call TRS again today to see if they have any other ideas on my problem.

Is it possible that having 2 good ballasts completes the circuit or the ground? I’m not all that knowledgeable in wiring but the kit is pretty basic????

In a standard H4 configuration there are two filaments. One is high and one is low. Only one is powered at any given time. This means that when you hit the high beams the low beam filament is turned off and just the high beam filament comes one. I suspect you are powering your ballasts off the factory wiring and not an aftermarket wiring harness, so that when the high beams are activated your low beams (Ballast power) goes off. if this is the case and you need one of the after market wiring harness, let me know i have a spare laying around.

Then I suspect there is a problem with your harness or it is improperly connected to the factory H4 connector. Check the plug from the harness that connects to the factory harness and verify that you have it connected correctly.

 

Called TRS and Ill be switching out the potentially bad ballast and a whole new wiring harness. Really hoping it all works.. the lights look sick!​

 

HI, seems the trs 9007 are 9004 relays so you have to switch one outside lead with the middle one. Also checkout this link if it doesnt work

I think I may know your problem or at least an option for you to check out.

I will assume you put this kit together. Did you at any point during your install remove the plastic housing from the hi/lo beam motor on your projectors to get the 2 (positive and negative) wires through the headlight bowl. If you did take the plastic piece of and then re-installed it to the 2 projector motor wires, you may have mixed them up. If you look at the projector wires head on, the plastic housing looks like a small house the (-)negative wire goes on top (or top hole) and the (+) positive wire goes on the bottom (bottom hole). Check both to make sure they are in the same/proper order. If you got the newer projectors I think the wires came in white and blue (older projectors have standard black and red) call up the TRS and ask which is positive with the (White/Blue) wires if you don't know.

Hope this helps with the hi/lo. The rest of your description sounds like you might also have a bad ballast. I would get new ones.
