Well a long story short because I need someone to talk to or just to talk I dont know...

My dad had open heart 6 months ago maybe a few more, hes been doing great. Until lately, off and on pain.

He went to the doc today they have to do another heart cath, the doc is thinking he has another artery clogged and they might have to do open heart again....

My dad is a trooper, but I think going under twice is pushing the envelope, and his job, what if they let him go ya know?

Im afraid for my dad, he's been slowing down lately, afraid for my mom soon as she finds out she is going to be stressed.

I know you can always say the what if thing, Im worried though, if he loses his job, my mom stresses out, or the worst case the D word...

Hes not my biological father, my bio dad passed away at 9, it would be extremely hard if he passed to... I dont even know.

I always preach everything happens for a reason..

Apprecciated it, trying not to stress but its hard.

The first time was easy not to show it but again, ugh its going to be harder....

Its odd though, Id rather tell people here then my close friends....

Maybe its because I dont really know anyone? Or maybe I thought no one would answer heh

My grandfather had open heart 3 times in 5ish yrs. Twice to put in pace makers. He had lots of trouble with the medicines until they finally got the right combination. He was in his early 70's and in decent shape. You said your father is a trooper i'd suspect that he's going to be fine.

Just remember you can always vent here, this is a great group.

Funny how just typing things down to random strangers seems to help. I've been there, not an easy place to be. If your dad ends up haing the surgery and losing his job, he will be able to collect disability. I would not worry about the money, these things have a way of working out. Spend time with your dad, and we'll all be thinking of him and praying for him. Good luck and make sure you take care of yourself while you're going through this.

listen to some bob marley, it always helps me when i start thinking about that kinda stuff. My gma died last year and left my gpa here, they were married for 68 years, his 90th bday is this thursday (which is good) and i have helped them a lot throughout the years. So i dont know exactly but i kinda know what you're goin through. I like what you said about everything happens for a reason, believe that and you will only grow stronger. Something good always comes out of something bad. Like mr. Marley says "Dont worry, be happy"

    I understand your worry/fear.

    Joshua 1:9
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go"

Your fathers job cannot let him go for heath issues. If so it becomes messy. Do they have any thing like FMLA up there?

I know its hard to but stay strong and dont worry. And dont be affraid or ashamed to cry. It will all work out in the end.

    Prayers your way man.

The heart cath is no big deal, they just wanna make sure his grafts are patent. Obviously his original heart vessels will still be clogged, no surprise there. Often they can still cause residual discomfort but it is not life threatening.
Based on your statements it sounds like he only had a 1 or 2 vessel CABG, and therefore his other vessels 6 months ago were ok.
I know these things can be freaky but I wouldn't worry until after his cath when you actually have a diagnosis. Some people have chest pain but it isn't life threatening.

Just make sure he gets a second opinion before he goes under the knife a second time if that's what they recommend.....

Its funny I just went fishing with him on the lake. (im not a fishing type of guy) but I went withhim because I knew he would enjoy it. He had a blast, I made it out alive LOL.

Its funny how I now look at it that Im glad I went with him.

Yeah typing to random people does help haha!!!

I want to be angry, at anyone but Im trying to stay cool... Im not a angry type of person usually.

Being on the FD I have worked CPR on multiple people and just thinking that, it could be him...... Yeah dunno

It does feel reliveing to talk though.

If I were you, the job would be the lowest on the priority list. I know losing a job is a huge stressor but there are much more important things to worry about. All you can do is hang in there, be supportive and hope for the best. I'm sorry for your situation and I really hope he comes out healthy and strong!

Hunter, first of all, please don't worry about your dad going through another surgery. If they didn't think that he is strong enough to go through one, they won't do it. They won't risk losing a patient, it's too much of a liability. If they feel that he is not ready then they will sustain him until he IS strong enough. And by that I mean keep him in the hospital and monitor him closely.

As for him losing his job, he cannot due to health issues, UNLESS the doctor states that he cannot ever perform his job again. If that is the case, then he will either be retrained to do something that brings in the same amount of money or he will be able to collect disability. But as for losing in terms of being fired, I'm pretty sure (someone correct me if I am wrong) that it is illegal to fire someone because they are in the hospital or sick.

Your mom will be understandably upset that he might need this surgery but you both need to remember that it's for the BETTER. It's scary, yes, but as I said earlier, if they think it's too risky they won't perform it.

Hang tight, Hunter, things are going to be okay. He is in the best hands he can be right now and they have a solution to his ailment.

As a matter of fact, this is something you should be happy about! They KNOW what the issue is, they KNOW what needs to be done, and they have a solution!! What better news than that, huh? :)

((hugs)) He's gonna be just fine, Hunter. Celebrate that.

We didn't change how you feel. Changing how you feel comes from within. I think it's just different ways of looking at things and we just came through with different view points. :)
