I brought mine in to have it checked today. They ordered shocks front and back, one leaf spring for each side, and bumper stops for mine. I have a 2010 non TRD.

Lol I guess these dealers can't read...

This is straight from the TSB

    "NOTE
The 2009 – 2011 model year non-TRD Option Package Truck is already equipped with updated shock absorbers and bump stops. Do NOT replace the shock absorbers or bump stops."

Okay got it, thanks. I'll let them know before they install it. That would be a waste.

Your situation sounds just like mine. They ordered the springs and shocks. With me, they did not installed the ordered shocks, because the TSB does not call out for it.

An intelligent technician will follow each step on the TSB and will notice the note and not install new shocks on yours.

Toyota Corp. might not reimburse the parts/service expense because shocks do not need replacing on your non-TRD.

Either way, my truck rides like normal, I dont feel the sudden "stiffer" ride some people have mentioned.

I had a small argument with the guy on the phone .. to make it simple he said "I will note not to install the shocks and just do the leafs".

Lets hope he sticks to his word.

I called my guy and told him about the note that says mine doesn't need it the shocks and bumper stops. He says that they will install the parts ordered as instructed. *shrugs* Maybe I should ask for my old parts back, huh? :D

Well on the plus side, I think the replacement shocks are the Bilstein TRD shocks (correct?)...

If that's the case, that means when they are done you'll pretty much have the same suspension as a TRD Off Road. If that's what they do, it will firm up the ride a little.

If they just put the regular shocks back on... Well you got new shocks for free. If they will let you save the old (still new) ones. It will save you a few $$$ when the new ones wear out.

    Hmmm....lessee.

Part number for new shocks (I asked for a copy of the order request)

    48510-09U50 front
    48530-09Q40 rear

Does anyone know how to translate this?

I've been researching the PN's. Its hard to say, hell most sites say they are camery shock (obviously not)...

The true way to know is if the new ones are yellow and blue, then they are the TRD shocks. If they are all black, they are exactly whats on it now.

The TRD needs the shocks, it's the non-TRD the doesn't need it :)

Maybe I'm not catching the sarcasm here, but now I'm a bit confused. After reading the TSB I was pretty sure that the 2011 TRD does not need shocks. Actually it looks like no TRD ever needed shocks and only the non TRD older then 2009 needed them. Is this correct?

The way I understood it, is that the TRD DOES in fact need the new shocks. If it is not TRD the stock shocks are sufficient.

Read the TSB on page 1 for yourself. Only the non TRD 05-08 gets a shock replacement. Before they came up with the "improved" non TRD shocks, the non TRD's would get the TRD shocks.

This is coming from someone that has read the tsb, owned a 06 non TRD, has a friend that owns a 2010 non TRD and had the tsb done, and now owns a '11 TRD and has has the tsb done.

Yes, get the tsb done. The improvement in handling alone makes it worth while.

Sorry to confuse you. :( I was talking about 09-11 non TRD NOT needing shocks. I should have been more clear.
