alot of the trail was fairly easy just alot of flexing where low was good mainly to keep the rpms in a good range...low helped on the decents and only a couple spots where 4wd was needed for ascents...used my locker on a couple spots mainly because i could and made it easier by not worrying about spinning (loose dirt and rocks were the main culprit, but the more difficult line selections led to flexing which locker helped keep all wheels moving)...

every obstacle was passed easily by us, and those that at first made us think it would be difficult, turned out to be alot easier than first thought..

If you get all that recovery gear don't turn into those jeep drivers we saw at left hand. I don't want to stop at every obstacle so that you can use your tree strap and winch :p

Anyone going camping/off-roading this upcoming weekend? Wife, daughter and I moved here early Jan. 2011 and have been ready for nice weather for camping/off-roading. Going to stay away from the big parks but not quite sure where to go yet.

I honestly dont see the point in lokcing the front end with our cv's... your gonna snap them like twigs, plus a SAS would enable u to so many more abstacles... why spend the money on LT and locker and gears? SAS...

I am not going to LT the front, I am just going to do coil overs. I may not even lock the front, but I will do gears.

A small handful of select mods.

Gears a must but since you are in the front you might as well throw in a selectable and do it once. There are many situations where a little extra front traction will help without romping on the gas and breaking the CV's. Besides I would rather have a weak point of a CV (while expensive) then an SAS axle break. At least if one CV goes I still have 3 wheel drive. An Axle breaks and for the most part you are no longer driving at all.

Do you know how much a SAS swap would cost on our 2nd gen trucks ?
It is way less just to do gears and locker in the front also my plans for this truck

I think you quoted the wrong person.

Gears and a locker at the same time is probably best BUT anyone that does this would have to expect the additional cost to maintain their truck.

I was just trying to keep it on topic, But yeah there is going to be a little more cost when you snap more CV's but that could happen now with out the locker. I have already been through one on my truck.
