I got a bad case of bad luck with my doors! I got a 97' 2.4L Ext cab

My Driver side door does not open from the outside but can open from the inside. and I cannot lock it cause if I insert the key in there it will not open.

Passenger side CANNOT be locked cause if I lock it and insert the key it will not open my key will just bend inside the key-weld. So I keep it unlocked so I can get in my truck

To get into my truck i have to go thru passenger side to open the driver side then get in.

so my truck is unlocked at all times so i am vulnerable!

Also when I insert my key into the ignition it wouldnt turn!!! However I went and got a duplicate key, So I don't think the problem is the key!
or do you guys think is it the key?

anyone know how to repair this or should i bring it in! THANKS

Has that original key worked good before now? Or did you just buy the truck and thats the key you were given?

Seems like you have more than one issue going. Have you tried spraying WD 40 in the locks to see it that helps?

The drivers door handle: sounds like you need to pull the door panel to see what has broke or become detached inside.

This isn't for your truck, but you need to remove the door and check the internals. You might have some linkage issues.

So does your key work now or not?

You said you got a duplicate key made, do you mean you had another key made from the key that is currently not working? Have you tried going to the dealership and getting a new key made from your vin?

It is an original key which I had a copy made of it! This problem has been going on since last year but I am trying to see if I could fix it myself, or go to a mechanic, I am going to go with a mechanic on this one!

That's a nice Redneck style door lock! Haha.

    Thanks for all advice.

Sounds like you should try to go to the dealership and get a new key cut, not a copy from the worn key. I'm assuming when you say you got a copy made from the original that you took it to a hardware store or some place that cuts key and had a duplicate made from your worn key.

Update: Just came back from a mechanic who fixed my driver side door, a clip was broken HOWEVER I still have to play with the key a little for it to open, THUS I am sure the problem is the key,

I'm going to move forward with the plan of having TOYOTA create me a copy using my VIN.

    Thanks for the intellegent advice.

saw a lady with the same problem....however she was 500 pounds and watching her get in from the passenger door close it climb over the console and get that huge leg under the wheel kept me entertained for 10 minutes.
