Desert tortoise is a big issue with all. From my understanding after talking to a BITD official today, SNORE is lacking largely in the cleanup are. There are course markings from 2 years ago up and they never blade the course afterwards. Which in turn makes it more difficult for blm to travel on their own land! I can see why they are denying these races. Maybe SNORE has some stepping up to do!

BLM sucks. They are a bunch of nazi bastards who could give two shits less about the environment. If they wanted to put a highway through there money would talk and the BLM would sell out. Another worthless three letter government agency wasting our tax dollars.

It is not "their" land. It is our land. Which is not to say users should not take care of the land they use. It would be difficult for me to believe the BLM did anything more than look out the window of the office to "manage" the land they're responsible for--of course, around here, they've been pretty good at destroying land with heavy equipment--land they have no right to alter.

Yeah, there's usually two sides to every story.

I try to be an advocate for open access, but responsibility use is a two way street.

Leaving no trace became more difficult recently as the BLM restricted what routes the races can take around Jean/Primm. Races are required to use much of the same track, which gets progressively more rutted out from the constant use.

Less land getting used, but the concentrated use of that land increases the impact on the terrain. I'm personally undecided as to what a good balance would be to satisfy everyone.

thats true, but leaving stickers/signs hanging around is just as bad as littering IMO.

I hardly ever see signs in lucerne unless its the day/night before a race.

Oh absolutely! Not defending the crap left on the course by any means.

I know the SCORE guys do a sweep both before and after the race, but then their entry fees are high enough to provide a helicopter to pull people out of the desert. They certainly have the resources to clean up after themselves.

BITD is definately responsible. They are very much set on "leave it how you found it". My buddy is on payroll with them. He is actually the one that blades the course after the race. I know it took him almost a full week to clean up after the Silver State 300. I always work a checkpoint and always take the initiative to clean as much course as possible after the race. I do have a shortbed though so it fills up quick. Anything us volunteers to just makes it easier on the host. I personally help until they tell me to go home.

Anyways, better luck for the Vegas to Reno race!
