Well I have the newest version of the motor and it's been around 5k miles now....just started squeeking occasionally yesterday. Given how many "leaves" the dealerships find I can always hope it is a leaf and all I need to do is clean it out. Time will tell.

I changed mine out for my second TYC one yesterday and it is still noisy. I picked my old one down to just the motor and couldn't get the back off the housing to pop the windings out without grinding off the tabs. You would think that since the motor breaks down to nothing more than the size of a soup can that some aftermarket company that specializes in automotive electric motors would start producing a fix. I mean if URD can make a dollar from selling throwout bearing kits, you'd think there'd be an equivalent, electrically-inclined company out there solving our fan annoyances...

For what it's worth, I had an 06 rental Corolla for about 2 months a while back and it also had a noisy HVAC fan.

I bought a replacement motor from Amazon.com...just installed it. Chirp went away, but the replacement assembly vibrates like a single engine aircraft. The sound & vibration is better than the chirp, but, not a long term fix. This is ridiculous!

IT'S BACK! My replaced one lasted 11 months and now the squeaking is back. This is so frustrating. So if I take it back a second time do I get a sound deadening cover to hide the squeak?

Covering a squeaking fan motor with insulation is kind of like putting a Glade Plugin next to a turd and thinking it isn't going to smell.

I guess I'm taking it apart this weekend to give it a serious lube job. What a joke.

EDIT/Correction: I was mentally thinking my first one went out in June because it was the start of A/C weather. I just looked it up and it was at the end of the warm season. I had the first one replaced Oct 13, 2010. That's only 7 months use on the new one before it squeaked again.

I got the "new" model back in March and mine already squeaks. It's a different sound (more squeak, less chirp) and not as loud yet, but it's still squeaking.

I got my 05 in Aug of 05, and started asking the dealership about that chirp at low fan speed early 06. They've looked into it numerous times, never found anything... or gave me any info like I've found on this site in the past 6 or so months. Of course with my mileage, it's all a moost point to some degree! Live and learn.

I can't wait to get this fix done! I'm hoping to go for it this weekend! Cn you give an estimate of how long it took you to pull it, grease it, then put it back in?

Having been hearing mine for a while now, but intermittent so I knew the dealership wouldn't find it.

Last week I took it in for something else and managed to replicate the blower. Said they would fix it this week. So I went in on monday to have them fix it. Pick it up and ask if they replaced the motor and get told that the TSB tells them to add the sound insulation kit and that will fix it. Ok so lets band-aid the problem instead of fixing it. Go out to my truck and drive away... just down the street I hear the noise again and turn right back around!!!

The Tec comes out and after a bit I replicate it again with him there and he is stumped. Says my truck, 2010, came from the factory with the new motor and shouldn't be making the noise. I remind him that YES it was making the noise and that the band-aid insulation does nothing at all to fix the issue and obviously the "redesigned" blowers don't work since I still hear it and I've read about numerous people online having the same issue.

Needless to say I went back today and got the blower replaced and all is well. Just wondering how long until the noise comes back and I flip out!!!

Had the TSB motor for 3 weeks and the squeak is back!!!!!!!

My old motor only squeaked in the cold. This squeaks in 60 degrees.

I too had the crickets/squeaking blower motor on low speed in my 2010 DC. Started with about 10K miles on the truck. Had the dealer swap the motor out, was quiet for a few thousand miles but then came back exactly as the original - squeaking on low speed. As I was reading on this forum I see several people continue to have problems even with the latest revised parts. Thanks to the photos/description posted at the start of this thread I figured why not just fix it myself rather than get the dealer to install another one that would make noise a few months later.

I took the motor out, cleaned the brushes out with electric motor spray, removed the fan from the shaft. Pulled the armature and greased both bushings very well with good synthetic grease. Re-assembled everything and the motor was nice and quiet, but this lasted only about a week and the chirping started coming back. I couldn't believe it. So now I'm thinking WTH now???

Turned the key on and left the blower motor on low, while making the chirping sound. Reached underneath and pulled the screws loose that hold the plastic cap over the end of the motor, but left the motor installed in it's normal place. Louder than ever. During my investigation, I found something a little different that I haven't seen noted yet in this thread. I found that if I pressed hard on the two 1/2" x 1" black rubber inserts on the motor case, the noise stopped instantly. Hmmm. So I pulled the motor out and took a look. The rubber inserts are directly behind the metal clips/springs of the brushes. As I was fiddling with it I could detect a faint high pitched sound if I moved the metal clip a little that the brush spring is mounted to. I am thinking the metal to plastic interface at this point might be the source of the chirping. I put a light coating of grease on the brush springs, and on the inside and outside of the metal clips and slapped it all back together. Silence again. It's been over a week now and things are very quiet.

I'll report back again if the cure isn't permanent but thought I would share in case it helps someone else with this problem.

Blower motor - note the black rubber inserts
    IMG_3819_7611feb5ef83757b34c9ba91f481a7f8ab1af6c7.jpg

Greased the copper colored metal clips where they contact the plastic housing for the brushes, and put a light coat on the springs too to dampen any high frequency vibrations there. (DONT put grease on the brushes). Also put a dab of grease on the inside of the rubber insert for good measure. The purpose of the rubber inserts is to suspend the plastic brush housing/assembly with no hard mechanical connection to the motor case, providing electrical and mechanical isolation.

9/3/2011 UPDATE: Everything is still completely quiet. Maybe I'm lucky, but it's been 4 months and the fix I did in the photos above seems to be working. Will check back again in a few months. This was an easy fix and saved me a trip to the dealer to install yet another new motor that would just end up chirping again.

*Heads up * my problem was finding the spring when it popped out lol easiest way is to just pull back the springs and lift it up that assembly as a whole.

So far the only noise I hear is faint rotating. thank you very much for the write up.

I noticed from the photo above that the part that carries the brushes definitely looks quite different than mine, which is a 2010. Apparently there have been some changes to the internals along the way. Your sig says 2006, is that the original?
