What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

dropping the 5100's down to 0 from 2.5, and getting nice new coils will be much better than what I have!

right now my 5100's at 2.5'' are prob giving me 1.5'' lift at most, so the old coils are hurting bad!

 

Um. Uh. Well. I don't have anything to compare to. But as a daily driver, I am finding the ride too firm after about 7k miles. Don't get me wrong, it is still a vast improvement over the stock hardware. But my theory is that the 5100s were designed to work with the stock 375 lb rate progressive coils, and the 88Xs are 502 lb non-progressive. I think the 5100s just aren't up to managing this much spring, and the Nitrochargers were specifically designed for it. That's all I got, but I think it is enough.

Ride quality is still a personal preference, though. And the Nitros ARE NOT CHEAP. But for me I think they will be a better long-term investment.

lol! Good question..... These bolts went to the end of the LCA under the left steering knuckle. I was able to torque the right side perfectly, but they kept freaking twisting in half on the left side!! I know my torque wrench isn't broken because I was torquing the lower shock mount to 101 just fine. So, in order to not break any more bolts, I only torqued my new bolts to about 80 lbs...

Does anyone know wth would cause this breakage??? I made suree as well as I could that everything was aligned, and I don't know what else could have been wrong....

Seems like either they were the wrong grade (5 rather than 8?), or they had been overtorqued in the past and were too stressed.

 

Nice, dude!!! And yes, they're set at 0... lol I'm guessing they'll settle a little though...

hmmmm I'm pretty certain they were grade 8 (I'll have to look at them again), but they were old, and they may have been overtorqued in the past... ah well. it's done now.

Zoom high performance Kevlar clutch installed and it's kinda the bomb. Noticed steering rack bushings are pret near shot. Just ordered some for wheelers going on as soon as I get em.

Did you lube the bolts before you put them in? If they were wet they'll take more torque before the wrench clicks. Not sure if that makes any sense, i'm not sure how to explain wet and dry torque.
