What does the "max 150 psi" mean on a tire inflator?

I'm completely new on using tire inflators. So what does the manufacturer mean when it says "150 psi"? Can I only use up to 150 psi and then it will turn off? If so, then when can I start using it again?

You seem to have misunderstood what psi is.

It's a measure of pressure "Pounds per Square Inch" not volume.

The rating is the maximum pressure that fitting can hold.

Not to worry, car and truck tires are fully inflated at much lower pressures.

150psi is where your tire becomes an over inflated balloon (thats what they mean by your tire becomes a bomb). the walls stiffen up, you will go faster, you will probably get better gas mileage, but braking won't be so safe. our door jams say to keep the PSI at 29. the dealer ship set mine to 35psi so i guess 29-35 is safe. a cold tire is a tire that hasn't been driven with tires get warm when used and the air inside expands so you wouldn't have a true psi reading so check it in the morning right before your drive.

 

actually, the tire pressure cannot exceed 50psi. Even my Load E range tires have a max pressure rating of 80PSI.

Max means just that, Maximum.
–noun 1. the greatest quantity or amount possible, assignable, allowable, etc.

2. the highest amount, value, or degree attained or recorded.

3. an upper limit allowed or allowable by law or regulation.

yeah you're right, mine says max psi is 44psi do not exceed. i wonder where he's getting 150 psi.

 

where have you ever seen a 150psi spec for a passenger car tire???

the pressure on the door is set by the factory for optimal driving and handling on stock tires. if you go over that psi you are fine, as long as you dont exceed the tires cold pressure limit. If I only had 29psi in my load e tires it would be all over the road. Way too soft. you need to use good judgment and/or do a chalk test.

regardless, this is about the "inflater" or better known as "air compressor" max rating of 150PSI. which means it only has the strength to inflate anything up to 150PSI.
