Hey everyone, I've been looking at this forum for a couple months now, mainly because I'm looking to replace my current ride with something else, I basically hate the auto transmission so much I want to get rid of the truck, even though everything els works fine.

Current ride - 2002 ford explorer xlt 4.6l V8 auto trans 4x4 mech LSD's front and rear.
I originally wanted my current truck, with a bed, and a stick shift, But aparently that can't happen from the factory, ok fine I'll look at something else. Since Ford has dropped the ranger, i'm feeling like either a Tacoma or Frontier are the answer, since I have to choose, I'd rather have the stick shift than the v8; here come the questions.

    1) it looks like if I want mechanical LSD's I need to buy an 08 or earlier model, is tha correct? (don't want "auto LSD" or "abLSD" in the case of the frontier)
    2) I've searched and searched but most discussions are about the rear differential; what differential is in the front of these trucks? Is it open or LS? I don't want an open differential anywhere in the truck
    3) are my findings correct that the E-locker from Toyota is open (non-LS) until engaged, and can only be engaged in 4lo, unless I do the "gray wire mod"?

Thanks in advance, I hope to get into something else soon, the idiot box under the floor pisses me right off.

OK I read a post explainnig A-Track on the 09+ models, but cant find the link again, can someone point me in the right direction by posting it here? The explination almost had me convinced to get away from my old mechanical ways.

The reason I like mechanical is the same reason I always have, I know it works. Every truck I've owned has had LSD's front and rear or LSD front and locker in the rear; since my trucks are on/off road duty, I prefer LSD's. The reason I looked into Tacmoa's is because of the E-Locker, anybody that has driven a truck with a locker in the rear (ha or the front) knows they have horrible road manners, the option to turn it off when not in use intrigued me, but when I came across all the brake controlled LSD posts, and open front diff posts, I didn't think it would work out for me, but now I'm reading you can use both the locker and a-track at the same time, so essentially it will be a locked rear and LSD front when in need, or LSD F&R when needed, or Open all around when driving on nice blacktop in the summer time; if I'm wrong please correct me.

Oh and to crf69 - my explorer has 92,xxx miles on it and runs like a top, it also gets 19mpg on average, even with that stupid automatic transmission trying to screw me up. I don't knwo why people have such an issue with domestics, I've never had any trouble with mine, lets not forget the frame rot issues Toyota had for a long time there. Every manufacturer has its downfalls.
