Motor Oil Analysis

cool how'd that work for you? Did you do a before/after analysis to see if you are wasting your money?

I don't get it. Does it make you sleep good at night or something?

How do you aren't wasting money on this particular synthetic?

 

i change it once a year......or 25,000 miles which i dont even come close to

makes me sleep like a rock.

 

My point is, for the amount of miles and time they claim the oil holds up, I'd run an analysis on it at 25k miles or a year (when you change it). It only costs $20 a test.

Knowing for a fact the oil can last that long is better peace of mind than the 25k miles they advertise on the bottle.

 

Well i ran it 17,500 in my 1997 nissan altima and when i changed it it was still slicker than a minnow's peter.
I have been doing this since 2004.The EAO filter goes all year.

My Taco only went 6400 miles last year on the oil.I run a Mann filter and change it every six months.Or 7500 miles.

That's what I thought too. I started having analysis done more out of curiosity than doubt of the oil. On the second analysis excess silicon started to show up. Then on the third and fourth it was worse. I started looking for intake leaks until I got a CEL that pointed to my exhaust air switching valve. It had started sticking enough to throw a CEL. The results of the analysis had given clues to the problem before it actually triggered a CEL. After cleaning all of the carbon out of the valve, the next analysis was clean.

I'm not saying everyone should get an analysis done at every 5k, but I do think that if you're running extended OCI then it can be beneficial. On the flipside my old man has been running amsoil with Ea oil filters with once a year changes for the past several (almost 10) years on his tacoma without any major issues or analysis done.

 

after i bought my truck i took it to a known shop ive been dealing with for a few years to let them take a look.

one of the old guys said he was an ex toyota tech and said to make sure you follow the oil change intervals closely as toyota has had problems with their engines "gunking" up because people are running extended oil change intervals and mentioned something about the vvt-i system.

castrol gtx 5-30 gets awesome reviews over at bobistheoilguy, of course every engine is different, but one fellow reported better oil analysis with gtx conventional than he did with mobil 1 synthetic.

i change every 4-5000km's
