I guess I never paid attention before I turned the chime off, did they used to stay on and beep after I turned off the key and opened the door??

I don't know, I turned off the chimes before I drove it off the lot. I assume it did though since the chimes are for the seatbelt.

Ditto. I checked out me Taco today. I have a basic '09 Taco Access Cab with zero options. As mentioned above I leave the lights on and when I turn the engine off and open the door the lights go out. When I restart the engine the lights come back on automatically. I now have hands free DRL. I never liked the low illumination of the OEM DRL's. Having t-boned another vehicle at 55mph who didn't see me in broad daylight and pulled right out I am a big believer in DRL's.

Thanks to those who pointed this out. :)

I've never heard of a Taco that beeped when locking / unlocking unless the owner put the beep mod in the truck...

anywho -- find the speaker... and cut the wire...

    unless it's for an alarm...

Most Toyotas with no alarm, make a beep when you lock and 2 beeps when you unlock, with the remote.

I am NOT looking to cut wires. I AM looking for the procedure to disable it. My 2006 Tacoma had the procedure in the owner's manual, but 2009 tells you to go to the dealership, and they want $50 to do it.

Normal Tacos do NOT beep with the keyless entry -- hence all of the write-ups on how to add the beep. You must have a special Tacoma.

Sounds like you either need to pony up the 50 bucks or figure out the procedure yourself as nobody has responded with a procedure despite multiple bumps since December.

You sure speak like you know what you are talking about, but clearly you don't. You obviously do not have any information that is helpful to me, so why don't you stop jacking with my post.

I don't think this is true of Tacos - I really wish I had this feature but my dealer says its not possible without a seperate alarm. You must have an alarm system that is doing the beep. what does your keyless remote look like? factory fob?

My new 2009 Tacoma with the factory remote (no alarm) makes a beep, as does my 2004 4runner, my 2006 Tacoma did, as well as my 2004 Tundra. I have heard that Gulf States Toyotas have different features than other divisions.

I know that my 2006 Tacoma had the procedure in the owner's manual, and I disabled it. You might check your owners manual on your 2008, and see if it says anything about turning yours ON. Maybe????? Good Luck.

Just a casual observation but I noticed that the OP has an '09 Taco. From what I have been gathering over the last several months the '09s have a lot of different wiring and stuff the '05 -'08's don't have.

Only when I blow the horn. I have a basic Access without keyless entry. It does not beep when I manually lock and unlock.

Edited: I do have the power locks but mine do not beep when locking or unlocking when I hit the button.

I had an '06 Tacoma - gulf state one as well and NO BEEP when locking or unlocking with the remote. Why turn it off? That way you can hear if you are locking or unlocking....

    Hey Smoot,

My 07 has the Gaurdian brand "factory VIP" alarm installed by the dealer, and it beeps the horn when I lock/unlock. I was told that I could not turn it off. The weird part is that it doesn't always beep. I sometimes hear the lock activate, and no beep. I just push to button again, and then it gives me the reassuring beep. The stealer sold me with the $5000.00 guarantee. If my truck get's stolen, my insurance will pay it off, and Toyota will give me $5000.00 over and above for my pocket. I'd use the $5000.00 for a down payment on a new Taco.
