Alright, if the part of the 2nd Amendment concerning and armed militia isn't obsolete, explain to me why people are almost running in the streets screaming "ther cummin' fer yer guns!" in panic when any legislation concerning firearms whatsoever is brought up.

If you really didn't feel that way, there would be no "would you give up your guns?" thread. There would be no NRA lobbying. There would be no rabble or outcry or calling names.

It's over. You've lost. You cannot compete with the PR machine that is modern politics. The NRA is a puppet whose sole purpose is to drum up fear and gun sales. There will be no insurrection against tyranny and oppression. There will only be fear and Internet ramblings and the occasional whackjob who shoots a Senator or blows up a Federal building.

If militia portion of the 2nd Amendment isn't obsolete, then where are the calls to hail Jared Loughner and Tim McVeigh for standing up to the oppressive US government and its tyrannical suppression of freedoms? Nowhere. There is only backroom talk about what "should be," and what "ought to happen," because Lougjner and McVeigh were not national heroes. They were terrorists. They were criminals.

Stop talking about violent overthrow of the government and armed resistance. It's not going to happen. And you only sound like a crazy person for it.

and the militia portion is not irrelevant...just look at countries like Libya where a few are holding a resistance........and the 2 men mentioned above were lone individuals and didnt not represent the nation as a whole....

Please quote ONE post that I called for violent overthrow of the government..... or even went there. Just ONE. I was just pointing out your assnine liberal ramblings that the 2d ammendment is obsolete is ridiculous. YOUR thinking is what is wrong with this country. It is perfectly acceptable to get away from what this country was founded on and become a welfare driven bunch or progessive I wanna be europe jr. douchebags instead of realizing the reasons that actually make this country great. You decide to cherry pick constitutional amendments that you want to recognize and blather on with your drivel. After 20 years in the military I can tell you one thing, EVERYONE I served with was of the same mindset and they are NOT turning on their own citizens. So tell me little hitler, if people refuse to give up their weapons are you going to be the one to throw them in the ovens? leave fantasy land and accept the fact that not only has the Supreme Court upheld that the 2d Ammendment is NOT obsolete, that weapons are not going anywhere in this country and if they scare you and you don't like it then feel free to leave. Also you should study your history because I am sure many asshats before you thought their government was unbeatable and would last forever. It just doesn't work that way. this government is but a pimple on the ass of some of the greatest ones that have come and gone.

You're kind of proving my point.

The crux of the 2nd Amendment's obsoleteness is in the hands of the military. If the military upholds the hypothetical decree of Congress/CIC to revoke American citizens' ability to own firearms, then the 2nd Amendment is moot. No armed citizenry can stand up to a committed US military.

If the military decides to counter this, you have a coup.

Furthermore, this is an endgame scenario, which will never happen. Politicians know that they have the support of the military -- either directly or through the use of media spin. (how many times have you heard of a person with a trunk full of weapons labeled as an American hero in modern media?)

I never said you mentioned violent overthrow. But this person does:

And when I point out how he is wrong and how the concepts he is endorsing no longer hold meaning in a modern society, you run to his defense.

And furthermore, Hitler was a Fascist. Fascism is a far-right philosophy. So by calling me a liberal and a fascist, you are contradicting yourself. Which I guess is fine, since I am in fact an Independent, so they cancel out.

And for a person who seems to have a clear concept that this government is neither the first nor the last in the line of great governments, there seems to be a real lack of acceptance that truly great governments adapt and evolve with changes in technological and societal advances as to stay great and relevant.

I'm not cherry-picking anything. This thread is about the ramifications of a government-endorsed (be it local, state or federal) disarmament of the population. I am merely pointing out that should such a ludicrous hypothetical situation come to fruition, the attitudes reflected by many members of this thread are not only illogical, but downright false.

If what I say scares you, then perhaps you should look more closely at which you direct your anger. Is it at myself, for pointing out the obvious facts, or at the crumbling of the pillar around which you build your Internet bluster and bravado?

The bottom line is this country isn't going down. Period.

Opinionated douchebags are what they are. They fester up like zits but they fade away. Ultimately they amount to nothing, just forgettable puss.

    Semper Fidelis indeed.

Faith in terms of church and state are seperate though.

    Religion:
    World English Dictionary
faith :— n 1. strong or unshakeable belief in something, esp without proof or evidence

    Political:
    Legal Dictionary

    Main Entry: faith
    Function: noun
1 a : allegiance or loyalty to a duty or a person b : sincerity or honesty of intentions
2 : fidelity to one's promises and obligations

to have faith in God you need but faith alone.

to have faith in ones country you must know every man will do his part, that scum bags won't be mooching of gov't money so they can keep being lazy and that the men and women "you elect" have only your best interest in mind and not their own intentions... this is not something many Americans have faith in...

Very true, even if we were in an economic depression we'd most likely still be able to prevail against any adversary. We still give the best chance in the entire world for humankind to grow out of it's infancy. God Bless America!!! :oldglory:

I don't know where this thread ended up going....I know that rather than live without my rights to bear arms, as much as it hurts to say, I would rather move to another country! This country has changed enough since I was a child. I miss the way it was, and I know it won't ever be the same. If things changed so much that I couldn't own the family guns, or ride my harley freely, I would leave and try for greener pastures. I've served my country, loved my country, and paid my country (taxes) since I was 13. We have a lot of rights, one of them is to leave. I realize we can't all be the winners, but I hope my values are the ones on the winning side of this argument and it gets laid to rest for a long long time. ;)

I guess to put plainly "would I go down shooting"....No. I wouldn't kill an American to keep my guns, I would leave with them first.
