Are their anchor holes underneath plastic rail cap

Hey guys and gals,

First off, I am new here and want to say hello. Also I am a jeep convert and this is both my first pickup truck and my first Tacoma. So I have a 2011 access cab Tacoma and I am looking to get either the roll n lock or pace edward tonneau cover for my truck. First off, which one would you experts recommend? It needs first and for most to provide locking security. my real question however is so forth: I want to install a light duty contractor rack for my surfboards (I can't have them hanging out the back for security / parking concerns) are the any anchor holes (square holes in four spots on most trucks) under the cap which sits on top of the bed walls? I know I could look but this is my first new truck so I am hesitant to disassemble anything without a purpose. If not, are there any solutions that would allow me to do both. I know any locking tonneau cover disallows use of my bed rails. If it helps I am looking to do go with the Abra contractor racks with the roll and lock tonneau cover. Thanks for the help! The square holes you see do not have pockets beneath them like the traditional type

 

Most Tacoma accesories like headache racks and lumber / ladder racks mount on the bedsides and attach to the factory bed rails with threaded rod or bolts .

What kind of bolts are you using to attach that?

 

They are just regular bolts with washers on the heads , you slide them into the track from the end .

The nuts are what is visible on this side .

Yeah, I see what you are saying. Thank you kindly for the pictures. My problem is the tonneau covers that do a good job against theft all require the full use of or replacement of the rail system. Can you think of any way around this? I can't tell from the picture but it looks like the second hole is just behind the rear wheel well. is there a third at the end. I am not looking for anything crazy I only need to hold maybe 2 60 pound surfboards (60 pounds is a exaggeration) and the weight of the rack itself. Would the side walls of the bed (can anyone tell me the name for those walls) hold this weight if i either bolted a plate sandwhich style into those holes? Is this a really stupid idea? can anyone think of a way to get the best of both worlds, maybe a rack that can attach behind the track of tonneau cover that is thin, say, less than a .25 inch? thank you

 

The problem is that there really is only some sheet metal meeting the composite under the bed caps as you see in the pic .

Would the factory roof rack work or would the boards be too akward up there ?

grr, sheet metal....I see what you are saying, probably not a good idea. Are the holes that are there used solely for attaching the plastic piece to the wall? The factory roof rack would work I guess but I have 2 9 foot 6" boards and I feel I need more space between the supports to prevent flex and cracking. ok, it is back to the drawing board...any smart ideas?

ive never seen this much oz helpfulness. it must be because of his ice skating team.

 

I am getting a hard tonneau, I need it to keep the thieves at bay for three reasons: 1. I tend to surf in areas which are not altogether safe 2. I tend to haul very expensive equipment 3. due to my job my truck tends to sit in parking garages for 8 - 10 hours at a clip. for clarity I am looking for something like this:

The other option I was thinking of is getting a rack like you pictured and bolting it behind the track for the cover so the cover could roll out. the weight of the boards would be distributed along the rail and again it is not that much. could I get away with this?

i'll be honest, i don't completely understand what youre trying to get, specifically the function of it. but i wouldn't pay those prices for something like that. you could likely have somebody build you that exact same type of rig for half the price. just sayin (in a nice way)

 

I was wondering if you could get cross rails atttached to the top of your hard tonneau
