You're really not going to like my response, but I feel compelled to say it anyway.

I think you need to invest a LOT more thought and effort before making a decision, for the following reasons.

    1) You're listing SFA vs IFS for a reason you would trade. But you don't wheel except over mud or dunes, and even a stock IFS (or with 2" lift) is more capable than the suspension setup you got now.

    2) You list price/ease as a reason for the Jeep. Seriously, after all is said and done, trying to sell your Tacoma, buying a Jeep, fixing any problems that come along with the Jeep, registering it, etc., you're probably going to lose money.

    3) "Getting the girls" is the stupidest reason to buy a 10 year old Jeep. Invest $30 in a self-help or how-to-understand-women book and save tons of money. I love women, too, dude. But a financial decision like this is immature if the woman factor comes into it.

    4) I would be a little more modest about what you expect to get from your truck if I were you. It looks badass dude, and I'm sure you system is sweet. But most people won't pay for $8.5k for a truck they can't even take on the freeway OR offroad ridiculously hard.

    5) Don't complain about the issues with your current setup if you're going to slap >4" of lift on whatever vehicle you purchase. Aside from looks, there's almost no functionality for anything greater than 2.5-3.0" lift. Doing it purely for cosmetics is totally fine if you want, but be aware it can cause reliability issues for a daily driver.

You're in high school, man. You're going to have plenty of time to build the sickest truck you want after college. Don't make a mistake now you're going to regret, ya know?

hmmm many good points . but i dont 100% agree with a few of them. like when you said any lift over 2-3" is just for looks... a have a buddy that has a 6.5" long arm lift(with quick disconnects) on his cherokee and he seriously goes where ever he wants when ever

and is feels like your riding in one that has a basic 3" lift when driving over 70. so thats where me wanted a cherokee came from.

the girl factor doesnt come into play here

also you said that i will have plenty of time to build up a 4x4 when im out of college. thats true but it will be many years untill im making the hourly rate im already make now. and once i finally do start making 20 an hour again i will have a house payment/bills and wife...( hopefully :D). so then i will next to no money to put into my 4x4

im not try to disagree with you im just stating the facts

You are wise beyond your years, but I think your advice is falling on deaf ears.

I did. If you think an XJ with a 6.5" lift can go over anything it's pointed at, you've never really been wheeling. As said before in this thread, you are convinced to do something you are probably going to regret. If you have the money to be doing this now, you probably should be saving it for something else. It sounds like all the wheeling you do can be done in a much more practical vehicle. Like I said before, I've had the exact vehicle you want and you are delusional if you think it is a practical, reliable, every day vehicle. The drivetrain on the cherokees is solid, but if you wheel them they just fall to pieces around it.

good points ^^^ kinda ironic that budy is selling is xj because hes been driving his sister car around(subrau that get around 28 miles per gallon) and he said his cherokee is soild but its totally impratical cuz it gets 12 mpg. so hes going with a all wheel drive car

so i think im going back to a taco.

anyone out there with a 1st gen with a 4" lift (3" ome with 1" body)

    with 33's?

if there is whats your mpg?

another reason why i selling it (getting about 7 mpg up it)

that 3-4" lift with 32/33's sounds pretty good right about now

Hey, feel free to disagree with me, bud. I stated my opinion, and if you've honestly contemplated the points everyone has made and what matters most to you, then you should be good. Good luck with your purchase/decision! Let us know how everything works out!
